About me:
The National Poetry Slam is a five-day whirlwind of events featuring
75 teams of spoken word artists from across the US and Canada. It's
part tournament, part festival, and part rallying cry. Teams compete
in tournament bouts in venues in the downtown and Soco districts,
culminating in two huge nights of poetic competition at the Paramount
Theatre. Free daytime workshops, panel discussions, and showcases
precede the bouts and late night afterparty throwdowns follow the
competition each night.

Studios, The Hideout, The Paramount Theatre.
Tickets: Come to NPS and get a wristband for only ten bucks good for
all prelim and semifinal bouts. Tickets for the finals available at

Examples of side events: Nerd Slam, Hip Hop Headquarters, Head to
Head Haiku, Live Music Open Mic, Comedy Open Mic, writing workshops,
and more.

The National Poetry Slam is coming to Austin, Texas
again this year. 400 poets will descend on our town
like a bunch of fire breathing, beret- wearing
dragons.
We can’t put on this show without you. Lend us your
ears and give us your cash. We need you. Poets don’t
slay mendacity and reveal the beauty of a quiet pond
because they’re looking to get rich and forget you. We
choose to dance with those who brung us.
Philanthropy-- It’s not just a word spoken at a ribbon
cutting ceremony for the ladies who lunch. It’s about
supporting people and events that have something to
offer, that give something to the community, that have
something to say.
