BIO: Hailing from the notorious Calder Council Estate (aka C-Block) in the Westerhails area of Edinburgh the philosophy of BAFTA Nominated NothernXposure is hard hitting, politically and environmentally conscious--with a strong emphasis on the pit-full’s of crime and drugs. The crew has been running now for over a decade and has been quoted in The Skinny Newspaper as, 'The major contenders to break Scottish hip-hop abroad and elsewhere in the UK'. During their world travells ODC and Th3s1s have perfromed live in the United States with such infamous artists as 'Naughty By Nature', 'Wu-Tang', and 'The Roots', in the UK and Europe with the likes of 'Estelle', 'Jamila', 'Jamie Winstone', 'Skin', 'Roll Deep', 'Wylie', 'Dizee Rascal', 'Dialated Peoples', 'MC Solaar, 'Akala', 'Wylie', ‘Klashnekof, ‘Jhest’, ‘Kano’, ‘Sway’, ‘Amy Winehouse, 'Roots Manuva', ‘Ndubz’, ‘Lethal Bizzle’, 'Marvin and the Martians', ‘Akala’, 'Coolio', 'and are currently touring with Skinnyman, to mention but a few .
Among various shows in Europe, the US and the UK they have also been booked for such events as the BBoy Championships Holland, Scotland’s No.1 female MC sweet-E has been chosen to perform along side a selection of nine other Top UK female musicians at ICA London by Trace Magazine London. All of the girls have also been sponsored by PUMA's new Evisu and sportswear range. The other artists include: 'Netsayi', 'Sarah Love', 'Estelle', 'Alex Waterhouse', 'Terri Walker,' 'Skin', 'Jo Whiley', 'Mutya, 'Amy Winehouse', and The 'Th3s1s' aka sweet-E. With support and the DJ for the night coming from the long time established 'DJ Premier'. Their music is though provoking, philosophical, dynamic and exuberant and in July 2006 'Mobb Deep' and 'Prodigy' released a track on the 'G-Unit' Mixtape which was quite clearly a rip of the magnanimous 'Too Many Rappers', recorded and released in 2005 by NorthernXposure. This particular situation was reported in Hip Hop Connection by DJ Excalibah who came to these conclusions on his own, as well as Source Magazine. NorthernXposure look forward to promoting their album, and touring in Japan with 'Youcho Crew' & 'DJ Huruka' , as well as Goa with ‘The Daisy Clan'.
The central members of Scotland’s No.1, original and longest established hip-hop crew NorthernXposure are ODC aka Revalations and sweet-E, also known as Brite Star, Th3s1s and BlacKWidow. Sweet-E and O.D.C. make up two of many within the crew dubbed NorthernXposure, and work with a variety of artists from Jazz, Afro-beat, reggae, Soul and hip-hop backgrounds. Growing up in Scotland, sweet-E and older brother O.D.C. a.k.a. D.B.S. had to learn to be resilient and to persevere. Subsequently, sweet-E’s love for rap music grew under the influence of ODC who has been creating and touring the hip-hop scene in Scotland since 1995 with his co-partner Mr Gogz. The crew essentially is more about educating the youth and giving them something to do while in precarious periods in their life’s and helping people see there is more to life than just ‘The Block’. NorthernXposure's work and style is saturated with the political intricacies and issues of today’s society. In some instances, songs such as ‘Sweet-Life’ have become a true allegory of the symptoms that have engulfed the youth of the nation. Their eclectic range is so diverse that it is difficult to define them in terms of any other MCs, both within the UK and outside it. Often the work is moody and philosophical yet also successfully manages to combine a political and spiritual awareness with such style, dexterity and just the right beat to produce tracks that are uplifting, engaging and moving. 2008: Already this year NorthernXposure have had their music played on BBC Radio 1 Vic Galloway, BBC Radio Scotland and various independent stations such as Subcity, Colourful Radio, Edinburgh Festival Radio, Leith FM .
