Conversation takes place all around us, but here is one you want to pay attention to. Nathan Shaver’s forthcoming release, “These Words Aren’t Working” is a Folk-Rock infused dialogue about the wins and losses everyone encounters in their life.
Like a warm “Welcome Home” Nathan’s antiqued baritone vocals guide you along in the stories and experiences he’s encountered, facing head on ideas concerning faithfulness, honesty, and forgiveness. “I really wanted to get away from the surface and write about my struggle, defeat, and disappointment and to address the issues I’ve faced over the past few years.”, remarked Nathan in a recent interview.
With the guidance of Nashville producer, Mitch Dane (Jars of Clay, Bebo Norman), Nathan was able to craft a record that opens the conversation to more than just catchy songs with clever tracks. Even though these 10 tracks can get stuck into one’s head, there is a depth and maturity in this collection that will leave you carrying on the discussion long after the music has passed. The diversity of tempo, phrasing, and structure really show Nathan’s ability to break out of cliché and into his own take on the art and craft of song.
Dane was instrumental in helping Nathan embrace a new approach to singing that ushered in honesty, courage, and even frailty. “Mitch helped bring out a side of my voice that breaks me down to what I am. A man in need of something more than I can construct.” Not only do his vocals communicate this insight throughout the record, but lyric, instrumentation, and song order make this record a dear friend you will want to revisit over and over.
“I figure that these WORDS aren’t working…” so you’ll need to invite Nathan Shaver into your music collection and enter the discourse.
