JL's Interests
General
Creative expression in the Arts, of various disciplines.
I want to learn something new.
The raw expression children give in the Visual and Language Arts, Music and Dance in their daily play. I love to see people do well that which brings them joy.
Music
Eclectic, enjoying many genres. Let's just say... I have an aural fixation.
Will you sing for me?
Surprise me with an unexpected plot twist and I'll smile real big for you! Films which illustrate human relationship in all it's varied complexity, and suspenseful, multi-layered complex story lines best keep my interest. Simple stories are rarely simple...
Television
It doesn't own me. The tube has been off since May 2005, except for a couple of PBS programs here and there. Odd...since I've turned the thing off, I've met so many, many nice people who turn ME on (so to speak)!
Yes, many (where to start...); will usually have three going at once. Well written books of many genres are what
please me, just no 'pulp', thank you. I am moved to write poetry or the occasional short story when the Muse finds me.
And I adore being read to - tell me a story, please!
Heroes
It all starts with Mom and Dad. My folks are the best! The person I'd most like to emulate would be my Dad's sister - simply the most gracious person I've ever met on this planet!
Also, my heroes are those who overcome in the face of great odds, and in a creative and ethical way (this list is increasing..here..and there). ***************************** "Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors." - African Proverb

About me:
Curious and inquisitive creature, am I. What fuels me? LIVE music, especially, and hearing something new and inventive which might express an emotion, common to all. I'm a sucker for a clever lyric which illustrates, simply and eloquently, a complex emotion or thought. Dance and music native to folk cultures, in all it's unpretentiousness and raw beauty and purity, can sometimes bring me to tears.
I'm a nature girl who loves creature comforts, but can endure and celebrate the rigours of the out of doors just for the pleasures of being there. I must breathe deeply to enjoy life.
It is my nature to plant things and to watch them grow, and it's absolutely necessary for me to get to the beach on occasion or I will suffer for it. Water is my element; I
often dream of being able to breathe easily & comfortably beneath the surface.
My animals and friends surround me and bring me much joy, and I love to ponder seemingly simple things at length and in depth.
I'm independent, but a loyal friend, and I will remember your voice. The world is just beyond my port, and my boat will travel far.
My spirituality is central to who I am, and I'm grateful to the Creator for gifting me with such a resilient spirit and for helping me to get up when I fall.
It is very unlikely that I might give up when settled on a thing, although I'll listen to all points of view on an issue before deciding for myself. I rarely complain about the little stuff, and I believe in possibilities.
Who I'd like to meet: You, simply as you are - no pretense.

the state of quiet valley post fest is something the upsets many people. i always try my best to take everything with me but i fail sometimes. this year i did good tho. i wish i had taken that fan. im fixing to paint my room and could use the ventilation. see you at little jolk
It was the Bratt that thought of it, we'd already been playing and since it was your BD we decided to ask you to play too. I can't think of anyone outside of ourselves that's as dedicated (obsessed?) with folk music as we three are.
Nina and I have decided that she and I are twins, just born on different days to different moms. FML was an only child, and I never had a sister, so it all works out. We've been catching up on things we missed growing up (like tag) ever since.
Hey... :) It is 7:15 AM here in the Texas desert, and I am getting ready to go to the gym. Last night I found this on the old computer I have with me.... Here is a wonderful "pen and ink" sketch that my grandmother did WAY back in 1906. She dipped an old pen in an inkwell, about a million times, and then made small lines on the page. I hope you like it. xoxo ..
OMG - I missed your birthday. Hope you had a wonderful day and that you have a very wonderful year to match it. Wishing you laughter, friendship, good health and loads of live music. Hugs to ya, Janet Oh, did I miss the brownies? Tag?
A beautiful person and even more beautiful soul. The happiest of happiest wishes to you on your day of life, love, and recognition. JL, I only hope your day and days to follow are filled with joy and good fortune. Thank you for allowing us the chance to share knowing you. Oh, Happy Day to You! From The Papa, Mama, and Baby Dewey- =)
