One FUN thing I LOVE playing is a game called WARRI. It is the oldest game in the world and originated in AFRICA. It is played many different ways and called numerous names depending upon the region of the world. The play mechanics in terms of thinking is as challenging as chess YET incredibly easy to learn and play like the simplicity of checkers. I have two WARRI game boards (the bigger one shown above). I bought both of them and learned the rules of WARRI from my friend and mentor, Oba. Click the pic to find out more. Really qool!
OUR WORLD with BLACK ENTERPRISE
is a really incredibly progressive and pertinent tv talk discussion forum about Black issues affecting the African Diaspora, and hi-lites and celebrates the greatness of all peoples of the Black community. The 30 minute show is syndicated and thus does not have a regular or permanent airing time slot (at least not in New York City). The best way to record the show is using your TiVO, RePlay ot DVR (Digital Video Recorder) machine. In New York City the show typically airs Saturday and/or Sunday between the hours of 1:00AM to 3:30AM or 1:00PM to 3:30PM on WABC, channel 7.Please check your local listings in your area to see this really qool show. The show is hosted by veteran and no-nonsense journalist Ed Gordon. PLEASE CHECK THIS SHOW OUT!!!
When I'm chillin' I like roundin' up some bruthaz and playin' paddleball/racquetball. Also love movie/films and a little bit of television (dramas), I'm a beach head, and big into photography. Love messin' around with computers & audio/video equipment (tech stuff in general), (on-line) shopping, MASSAGES (you haven't lived till you've had one of mine fellaz. LOL! And I use edible oils and creams! Fo' real! LOL!). I collect Black male calendars (I have like 75+ in my collection). EbonySoul and City Gym Boys rock the best calendars. I recently got back into comics the past 2 years when I found out that Reginald Hudlin would be writing a new BLACK PANTHER comic book. I love playin' a mad qool game called WARRI which is the oldest game in the world and originated in AFRICA. Since I'm a a GEMINI I love experiencin' all kinds of new vibes in life. So, wassup? Hit me up if you wanna chitty chat...
The Nubian Knights Network YahooGroup is my progressive pro-Black informational resource that I created and moderate. I have been running it for several years now. It's like an e-newsletter alert beacon for and about Black folks and I post all kinds of information that is positive, affirming and relevant to the African Diaspora. Information spans from political, economic, social justice and a bunch of fun event stuff and everything else inbetween. If this sounds like somethin' you can vibe with then please check out my group and join. The main goal is to INSPIRE YOU to CRITICALLY THINK, EMBRACE AND AFFIRM OUR AFROCENTRIC CULTURE, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY TAKE ACTION TO HELP ONESELF AND THE LARGER AFROCENTRIC COMMUNITY!
I'm a big fan of Kalamu because this brutha, like me, publishes a lot of progressive pro-Black information... however, far, far more than me. LOL! This brutha has so much information filled to the brim about the African Diaspora that it's not even funny. Check this cat out and sign-up for the Kalamu (e-drum) YahooGroup. If you do, I suggest subscribing to "Daily Digest" because he averages 250+ postings per month. You want Afrocentric info besides my own Nubian Knight Network? Yo, then Kalamu's e-drum YahooGroup is the place to be, yo! Thas wassup!

Wassup y'all? Brutha ROD here, an African-American Same-Gender-Loving (SGL) brutha. My African family roots lead back to Columbia, South Carolina on my Mom's side, and my father's lineage leads back to Barbados.
I'm a CADD [Computer-Aided Drafting and Design] professional. Basically what I do is draft/design engineering drawings as a consultant for different engineering firms. The biggest projects I'm working on is the EAST SIDE ACCESS Project which is bringing the Long Island Rail Road train system into Grand Central Station on the east side of NYC. The other big project is the 2ND AVENUE train line ("T" train) Project which will run north and south along 2nd Avenue in NYC to alleviate the current overcrowding on the 4, 5 & 6 trains which is also on the east side of NYC.
I'm transitioning out of the CADD field and into filmmaking. FILM has always been a PASSION of mine since I was a kid. I'm currently enrolled at New York University and studying Cinematography as a particular focus and vocation in film. Check out my student short film right below...
TWO (2008)
Written, Produced, Edited and Directed by ROD PATRICK RISBROOK (Me)
Starring STEPHEN CONRAD MOORE as "Pocket Knife"
Running Time: 12 minutes / Genre: Drama
Synopsis:
"TWO", a short story film told through a series of still photography, is about an African-American soldier (code named "Pocket Knife") where the odds are heavenly against him. Set in 1970 Vietnam during the war, Pocket Knife's platoon of men under his command are killed in a surprise ambush by enemy Viet Cong forces. Armed with just his training, his wits, his weapon and a mysterious photograph, Pocket Knife is determined to complete the vital mission alone. Or can he? This mission which has great strategic ramifications on the American vs. Viet Cong war depends on him.
I'm heavenly involved in humanitarian socio-political activism for the Black [same gender loving] community. For 3 years I was a Developmental Committee member of the Black Men’s Xchange-New York [BMX-NY] which is a cultural affirmation and leadership empowerment collective for Black SGL men.
Creatively, I love to capture still moments in life as a photographer, doing graphic design work, and was previously a producer at Brooklyn Cable Access Television [BCAT] working on a select number of progressive television shows. I love networking with other bruthaz and sistahs via the Internet and off-line in person here and there. Some future goals include someday self-publishing some fictional novels that reflect Africentric people in the mystery, drama and science-fiction genres.
I'm into diverse (especially Afrocentric cultural stuff) like museums and go on the annual ADODI Summer Retreats for Black SGL men. I'm into sports and a HUGE Washington Redskins fan.
As of June 2009 I have seriously began to BLOG (at the request of two friends who believe I can make a difference with my on-line VOICE. The BLOG is about everything Africana. COme check me out
A large part of my morality or belief is in KWANZAA which is celebrated from December 26th thru January 1st every year. KWANZAA is a unique African-American celebration with a focus on the traditional African values of family, community responsibility, commerce, and self-improvement. KWANZAA is neither political, nor religious, and despite some misconceptions, is not a substitute for Christmas. It is simply a time of reaffirming people of the African Diaspora, their ancestors and culture. Kwanzaa, which means "first fruits of the harvest" in the African language Kiswahili, has gained tremendous acceptance. Kwanzaa was founded in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga.
Kwanzaa consists of seven Kwanzaa Principles (Nguzo Saba) and should be put into practice every day, and not just celebrated for 7 days and then forgotten about. The Kwanzaa Principles are:
Now, reboundin' back to "Same-Gender-Loving" or "SGL" for short, its meaning which was coined and derived out of the Black community "...emerged in the early 1990s to offer Black women who love women and Black men who love men (and other people of color) a way of identifying that resonated with the uniqueness of Black life and culture". Basically, it's a CULTURAL AFFIRMATION to PEOPLE OF COLOR. And I live its ideology through LOVE and ACCEPTANCE. So any potential special bruthaz out there that want to get to know me better will know how I roll. Aiiight! We qool on this point? LOL!
And in case you're wondering what my screen name "BIG ROD" means... well, I'm 6'-3" in height and have always been tall going back to my childhood. During public school in class I was always last in line when we lined up in size order. My friends have been calling me BIG ROD for over 20+ years. So there! It's not the other thing you might be thinkin' - LOL! I weigh 200 lbs and have black hair and brown maple syrup eyes. LOL!
On the freaky deaky side, I have a huge fetish for UNDIES(men's briefs, boxers and boxer briefs) and have something like 50 pairs. LOL! I feel sexy no matter which ones I have on and I LOVE lookin' at bruthaz in their UNDIES! An afrodisiac FO' SURE, YO! LOL!
My 4 favorite colors are ironically funny because they all start with the letter "B": BROWN, BLACK, BLUE AND BURGUNDY.
My 5 favorite dishes (you bruthaz dat cook, are U listenin' out there? LOL! A brutha has got to eat guud, YO! LOL!) are SEA FOOD, SOUL FOOD, INDIAN, THAI & ITALIAN.
I'M NOT INTO ADDING PEOPLE ("FRIENDS") TO MY PAGE JUST FOR THE SAKE OF ADDING PEOPLE,
so please message me here on MySpace, or Yahoo Instant Messenge me (my screen name is BIG_ROD01), or hit me directly by email at BIG.ROD02@GMAIL.COM so we learn something about each other. Aiight? Thanks!
And lastly, I'm a Brooklyn, New York native! Be qool and much LOVE, y'all!
I AM..
I AM a good companion... I AM very observant... I can be stubborn... I AM loving and compassionate... I AM scared to fly (planes)... I AM articulate and intelligent... I AM highly selective... I AM my own high maintenance... I AM thoughtful... I AM indecisive at times... I AM meticulous... I AM a humanitarian... I AM an aspiring filmmaker... I AM passionate... I AM fearful of the unknown sometimes... I AM a sponge absorbing information... I AM sexual... I AM boyish in appearance (and a little bit in temperament)... I AM reserved... I AM spontaneous... I AM mercurial like thin air... I AM evolving like the BLACK twilight of the Universe...

PART BAJAN ANCESTRY
Pan-Africanism literally means "all Africanism".
It is a sociopolitical world view, as well as a movement,
which seeks to unify and uplift both native Africans and those of the African Diaspora,
as part of a "global African community"
"PAN AFRICAN FLAG"
The Red Stripe Represents Our Struggle (And The Blood Of Our People Not Shed In Vain)
The Black Stripe Represents Us, African Descended People
The Green Stripe Represents The Future And Hope (Prosperity) That Comes From Our Struggle
..
If I had a time machine and had only one place to choose it would be the HARLEM RENAISSANCE era of the 1920s and up to meet the Black artists (musicians, painters, writers, etc.) of the day, the underground Black Same Gender Loving (SGL) scene, and just the ordinary bruthaz and sistahs of the day.
My grandfather (on my father's side) transitioned when I was young and I'd be nice to re-connect with him.
Fast forwarding to these modern times now, I like to chill with qool and progressive bruthaz.
Countries I want to visit in the future include the continent of AFRICA (Ghana, Kenya/Tanzania, Egypt and South Africa), BARBADOS, BRAZIL, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, CUBA, INDIA and ENGLAND.
No doubt that I'd be taking mad pictures at those places because of my LOVE for photography and of African people and other people of color and culture!
