Influenced by early hip hop culture Dave Sims started djing in 1986 mixing and scratching hip hop and funk breaks after being influenced by DJ Cheese,Double D and Steinski;s lessons,Grandmaster Flash adventures on the wheels of steel etc, this led on to buying a 4-track tape recorder and creating break mixes and hip hop tracks with local mc's,and playing at local parties.
In about 1989 started going to raves and clubs like the Dungeon,Crypt, Telepathy and then later Paradise club (AWOL) and getting into house and early breakbeat ,djing at parties and raves staying with the music as it evolved through hardcore,jungle to drum and bass..
In 1996 started making tunes with DevParadox recording as “Nucleus “ releasing various12" and lp tracks of dark jazzfunkbreakbeat inspired dnb.,and deeper ambient tracks on various leading dnb labels including Reinforced, Goodlooking ,Metalheadz,Offshore,Paradox music,Arctic music..
Also staying with hiphop in 2000 releasing 2 BBoy break mixtapes with Break Dj Leacy,which have become classics in BBoy circles worldwide.
2002 saw the creation of "Esoteric", a label exclusively for Nucleus/ Paradox material.which is going strong into its 12th release getting excellent reviews and regular plays by many of the scenes top djs including Goldie,Flight,Marky,Marcus Intalex.,Loxy. .
As well as djing drum and bass Dave always stayed with his roots playing and collecting,funk,disco,hip hop,house,jazz,broken beat ,afro,latin,etc,and has played at various events in Germany,France,Holland,Hungary,United States,Russia,Croatia,Australia,Switzerland,Norway,Estonia,Finland and can also be found playing more of a deep house/disco sound at various clubs/bars/parties in London,including FutureNature/Ctrl Alt Delete,Lasermagnetic,Funkasino/Let It Play..
2007 saw the creation of Styles@The Castle in London,Nucleus and Dj Trax monthly all nighter in london,featuring a freestyle mix of anything with the funk..
