Dead flat man, I'm a vegan! Why would someone become vegan? Education. I remember as if it were yesterday. (cue wavy dream sequence)It all started at Southern Illinois U. SIU Vegan alums 88-92, represent. Click on the Fishbone link for footage of my favorite concert ever. It was Springfest and we partied balls out.
Then I rocked it out in Norfolk with the coolest Veggies. Damn, I miss Ghent running and eatin' at Cora's. Yummm. (Special note: Dave Perle broke my heart when he told me recently that Cora's has closed. Please give a moment of silence for the Sunday morning brunch.)
Interests: Current Events and building neurosis from 'em, History (gotta know where we've been to get (understand) where we are.
If you are crazy; or more than one person you know has called you crazy; bugger off.
If you are selling something you will be denied
If you have a hot picture and are from China and would like me to check out ..; you will be denied
If you are sexist, racist, a speciesist, or an idealogue you will be denied
If you are a woman and use equality or feminism as a weapon you will be denied.
If you are a Xenophobic you will be denied and your citizenship revoked cause you obviously didn't take the time to learn or pay attention when they were explaining what it means to be an American. I mean c'mon you white anglo nativists, are you Ameri-can's or Ameri-can'ts? Cowboy up if you're fat lazy ass lost it's job to a harder worker. Rant over.
Favorite blues line--By Skip James--

I stol't her from my best friend
But you know I got lucky
cause he stol't her back, again"

"...a recent UN study found that deforestation for the purpose of creating grazing land for cattle and methane emissions from cattle generated more greenhouse gas emissions than all the cars and planes in the world, so it's not just the SUVs, it's the C-O-W-S. Taking a shot at SUVs was gutsy. Do you want to take a shot at meat?"--Bill Maher
"Alcohol is like love. The first kiss is magic, the second is intimate, the third is routine. After that you take the girl's clothes off."
--Raymond Chandler. Is there anything less true and more poetic to a repressed male with hope for a life less contaminated?
"She gave me a smile I could feel in my hip pocket."
-- so beautiful it makes me cry.
“To an American the whole purpose of living, the one constant confirmation of continued existence, is to cram as much sensual pleasure as possible into one's mouth more or less continually. Gratification, instant and lavish, is a birthright.”
Chicago Vegan Look meat eaters, even though I blame you for H1N1 can ya'll at least wash your hands. http://lnk.ms/2dTc2Posted at 4:44 PM Oct 24 from TweetDeck view more
An economic vegetarian/vegan is a person who does not eat meat, and or dairy products, from either the philosophical viewpoint that the consumption of meat is expensive, environmentally damaging, or part of a sustainable and simple lifestyle that seeks to preserve resources and cut down on world hunger. Economic vegetarians/vegans believe that nutrition can be acquired more efficiently and at a lower price through vegetables, grains, etc., rather than from meat. They argue that a vegetarian/vegan diet is rich in vitamins, dietary fiber, and complex carbohydrates, and carries with it fewer risks (such as heart disease, obesity, and bacterial infection) than animal flesh. Consequently, they consider the production of meat economically unsound due to the conditions created on the commodities indecies when corporations purchasing grain to feed animals are competing against aid relief organizations like Unicef, the UN World Food Program, and Care to feed the hungry worldwide.
We know and understand that diet is the root cause of disease in this country and currently kills more Americans every day then anything else. Heart disease, high cholesterol, and cancer have been related to eating animal products.
Warning: I'm really not interested in getting to know anyone on MySpace unless (and only in a special case) they live in my area and we can somehow benefit from knowing each other in THE REAL WORLD. Other than that, I'm not interested in getting to know anyone on here and I don't have time for mindless internet flirting. (*This means you Ann) An unavoidable loophole exists as noted in section 1, paragraph 2, subsection 1.
"Take a deep look into that soul you put on every day; one patchwork pant leg at a time; and tell me where you're going to stand at the end. On the side of progress or opress?"--yeah, that was me who said that; and no you can't use it.

"It is all very well to say that individuals must wrestle with their consciences--but only if their consciences are awake and informed. Industrial society, alas, hides animals’ suffering. For modern animal agriculture, the less the consumer knows about what’s happening before the meat hits the plate, the better.
If true, is this an ethical situation? Should we be reluctant to let people know what really goes on, because we’re not really proud of it and concerned that it might turn them to vegetarianism?"
Peter Cheeke, PhD, Oregon St. U. Professor of Animal Agriculture, Contemporary Issues in Animal Agriculture, 2004 textbook

Oh, no, I didn't see that, but that's pretty cool. I didn't buy it, I've got connections... also known as the local library. :) I usually don't buy books unless I plan on reading them plenty of times. Book recommendations are awesome, I love to read everything as long as I don't get bored!
Thank you for the mail. What a great thing you got going! I added the page and i'll send out a bulletin about it on my other AR's page where i've got alot more friends. Good luck with the great work!
Jack! I just finished reading Water for Elephants, and it was awesome just like you said to me ages ago when you read it. I really liked the end when the old man ended up in the circus again, I thought the author was going to make him die in typical cliche fashion. Anyway, I only read it because you told me it was "a real page turner" so I wanted to let you know that I liked it. :)
SO!! B may have to make another work trip to Chicago and I may play tag-a-long! Don't have details just yet, but would love to see you if I can make the trip!
