  • Bio

...... .......... Number One Yonkees started making music in 2007. Emma (20 years old by then) and Shaggy (2 years older than Emma) had lived together for 1 year when music started to result as a combination of Emma’s writings and hummings on Shaggy’s riffs. They had being trying to fit in several office jobs, but this never made them feel good with themselves and they failed to be enthusiastic and truly committed. During the recording of Divinourm, they grew more and more interested in the connection between dream world and “reality”, the paradigms of existence, the study of several sacred plants and other ancient and modern mysteries that failed to fit in the standards of the western culture. “The Mayan calendar and prophecies, the Egyptian pyramids, the findings in the Sumerian cities, crop circles found all around the world and other singularities, force us to consider that its rather unlikely that we are alone in such a vast universe and that the notions of creation with which we were brought up put together a tale full of gaps and conceptual lack of sense. The fact that science and religion are still opposed in many aspects is a clear sign of the immaturity of our civilization.” “ We have no political ideology whatsoever. If we had to create one it would be pro-evolutionism of the mind ans spirit, which seems to be quite pretentious considering the institutional options available out there. We apply the same thought to the religious equation.” “To be honest the message of this album wouldn’t have been the same if we had never heard of people like Terrence Mckenna, Bill Hicks and Timothy Leary whose legacy left an answering teaching that consists of appreciate life and the world we live in with alien eyes. We now found Joe Rogan who we are profoundly thankful for keeping alive “The All Mighty, everlasting Wow” with eloquence and an impeccable taste for humor. Most recently Daniel Pincbeck who keeps putting things into perspective throughout his experiences and studies.” DIVINORUM This album was born after 9 months of a very severe case of self awareness. The name of the record implies a great rupture. The realization of “the divine” inside “the ordinary”. We used to have a very plane and unattached felling toward the phenomena life until we collected various unordinary experiences including of course, The Salvia Divinorum Experience. Why “Number One Yonkees” ? Because “The Witch Doctors” or “The Shamanes” would have been slightly old-fashioned, “The Reptilians” would have been over the top. Saying we are the Number One out of a crowd of junkies was at the same time appealing and grotesque, which is exactly how we feel about the world most of the time. This Album was produced by Luis Maria Cabezas & The Number One Yonkees in Luigi Sabitacione in Argentina and will be fully released in December 2009 Web-design : Number One Yonkees, Facundo Lucero, Pablo Molina and Ary Kotlik "My Friends" Video: Filmed & Edited by Mandarina Inc. for Number One Yonkees
