  • Bio

.... .... Earthburn Records is proud to announce the July 2011 release of 'Soulburn, the fifth studio LP from Numbs. 'Soulburn' is a return to old school rap mentalities for those who love that 'Golden Age' feel without an antiquated effect. The quality of 'Soulburn' is what you've come to expect from the three emcees (Gunnar McKell, Mark Dago & Rooster) and one deejay (Shanty). Comfortable enough to be themselves, the vocals are ever so fresh and charismatic, with true group performances. 'Soulburn' showcases the group's depth and sophistication while retaining definitive elements that have made Numbs such explicitly pure entertainment. Defining beatsmith Linus Stubbs handles the polished and finely tuned production of 'Soulburn'. He brings pure head nod material with lush, hard-hitting tracks crafted cohesively enough to fit together on the same album. The tunes, however, are nowhere near repetitive or boring. Linus sharpened his soul-sampling soundbeds by building a resume locally and working with such independent pioneers as the Bay Areas prolific Mistah Fab, Ohio's word play wizard Copywrite and Jersey bred Jewish emcee Kosha Dillz. 'Soulburn' is a lean 31 minutes long synergy, spread over ten tracks. It's a welcome breathe of fresh air in this postmodern ruse of generic musical soundscapes. The sample filled chain reaction of the 'Intro' sets the tone perfectly with calculated textures of shout outs and layered hooks from previous Numbs albums along with other snippets of a who's who in this rap game. While it is difficult to deny or overestimate the dynamic storytelling approach of 'Way Of The Gun' and 'Dangerous', the group stands front and center on tracks where they are throwing rhymes back and forth. The second cut, 'The Return' is the antithesis of daytime radio or commonplace ringtone rap. It provides a brilliant listening experience for any fan of that classic throwback sound. Pitch perfect 'DNA' with it's freewheeling feel, fun lyricism and catchy hook. The intense aura of 'Situations Critical' reminisces on the late 80's and will have your foot tapping and head nodding in the nicest way. DJ Shanty mans the turntables, his meditatively ambient scratches, breaks and bumps jostle in and out, adding flavor to the album. On 'Soulburn', Numbs stay true to their roots, but maintain both their originality and progression at the same time. All three of these vocalists not only rock the mic but also come together to make songs with meaning and feeling. It is that true essence and genuine ideology that break genres and the status quo and add as a testament of what Numbs aims to accomplish over and over and over again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NUMBS music has been licensed and appeared on MTV, VH1, NBC, ABC, CBS, UPN, Showtime, ESPN, Fox Sports and several other networks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NUMBS music has been licensed with video games PIMP MY RIDE, FINAL FIGHT, PROJECT GOTHAM RACING, STREET RACING SYNDICATE, NBA JAM as well as several others. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NUMBS music has also been licensed and appeared in movies ALPHA DOG (Universal), CROSSOVER (trailer on Sony), YOU GOT SERVED (international trailer on Sony), CUTTHROAT ALLEY (Barnholtz Entertainment) and more. .... ....
