New Microphone Cyphas uses music as a vehicle to entertain and educate, recognising that music is a powerful communication tool for individuals and society as a whole; our artists and music only promote positive messages.

The events are unique in that we hold a “Cypha which focus upon the artist’s collective performance and what the individual artists contribute to the Cypha”, which, put more simply, is a live jam session with rappers and singers.

CURRENT ARTIST ROSTER:
ASHEBER & THE AFRIKAN REVOLUTION


The band in its present form began in 2007 but has its roots steeped in tradition, the works of its members and the journey of Afrikan music in the Diaspora.

Presenting a revolutionary new progression and movement in the development of Afrikan music, and universal raising of consciousness, the band bringing an eclectic yet seamless mixture of conscious Afrikan, Reggae, Jazz, Soul, Blues and Spoken Word with a message.

Infinite musical possibilities arise whenever the collective is gathered, whether for live shows, studio sessions, workshops or community events. Already they have been exciting and inspiring audiences with high energy, interactive and innovative shows. Presently holding a monthly residency every 2nd Weds at one of London’s hottest venues, Hootananny in Brixton, word is spreading and there’s much anticipation for the release of their debut album ‘Time Traveller’s – Returning Thru The Door Of No Return’ later this year. ..

THE ILLERSAPIENS


The Illersapiens are a seven piece hip hop collective from South London. The band promote positivity and freedom of speech, which is reflected in the crowds they attract and the energy and vibe of their live performances. Their night at 'Upstairs At The Ritzy' is a display of their material and also hosts an open mic segment giving other UK artists and musicians the chance to showcase their own talent.

From Reggae to Broken beat, House to Jazz, their musical influences are in everyway freshly and personally interpreted creating a distinctive London sound.

In a time when there is so much crisis and clashes between people of faith, it’s both refreshing and thought-provoking to see LINES OF FAITH flourish.

A Muslim – Jewish hip hop band and spoken word collective, Mohammed Yayha and Danny Raphael are bringing a unique fusion of Islamic and Jewish words and music with jazz, blues, reggae, funk and hip hop.

Alongside their music Lines of Faith carry a strong Universalist message of peace and unity, which appeals as much to those of other and no faiths as it does to Muslims and Jews. With a focus on bringing alive the ancient traditions of both peoples to highlight the common ground of the two communities, as well as all humanity, it’s never been more apparent that such forward thinking musicians are needed today.

Mohammed and Danny are constantly performing together, with and without the full band, and also delivering creative workshops for young people in schools and community centres because as well as being professional musicians, Mohammed and Daniel are both highly experienced youth-workers and they discuss this in their recent interview with Nihal on BBC Radio.


GOT 2 REMEMBER


America’s legacy of family music groups is endless; however the UK’s contribution to this genre is more limited. The result of many a family group is also a clear division between generations; young sibling members making music for an audience their own age.

Formed in 2001, in the urban heart of West London, and led by Niles ‘Asheber’ Hailstones, a highly respected musician/producer, the Hailstones family are the backbone of this inter-generational group. Three of Asheber’s children are members; Nathan ‘Subz’ (age 23) is the groups’ ‘griot’ (the West African name for a poet or wandering musician), joined by his brothers Simba (age 16), and youngest, Heru, aged just six, plays the djembe, the traditional skin-covered hand drum.

Got2Remember also features vocalists Zeko (age 22), Misak (age 22), Palance (age 22), alongside band members and djembe players Ade (age 60), Shine (age 51), Lenny (age 42), and KMT (age 34).

The Got2Remember logo is an image of a wooden staff with an elephant engraved into it. The image of the elephant is vital to the nature of G2R; the animal’s incredible memory and the ability to communicate over distances via low frequency infra sound. These rumblings can be felt on the sensitive skin of elephant’s feet, picking up the vibrations in much the same way as the flat skin on a drum head does, tying band and nature together.
