I love hiking through the woods, looking at beautiful things, smelling the pines and redwoods, and the ocean. I love bicycling and hiking vacations, visiting new and exotic places, experiencing new things. I LOVE live music and get out as much as I can to enjoy our fabulous Bay Area singer-songwriters (below, mouse over the pics to get their names, then visit their pages)!
Music
Alt folk/rock, electronica and electropop, new wave, fusion, contemporary jazz, world (Greek, Balkan, Middle East alt/rock) and when I'm feeling nostalgic, classic rock and disco. I'm especially nuts about the artists whose videos appear on this page: BLAME SALLY, performing a song from their new CD "Night of 1000 Stars."
The fabulousBlame Sally spin-off duo, The Pam and Jeri Show, performing one of their originals at a house concert.
SUZANNE VEGA, June, 2008, performing "Solitaire". I have seen her several times in San Francisco over a period of ten years.
MISSY HIGGINS at the House of Blues in Anaheim, CA, December 17, 2008, performing "Peachy".
MEGAN SLANKARD performing "Mocking Bird" at an outdoor art festival.
VIENNA TENG at The Independent in San Francisco, March, 2008, playing "Blue Caravan".
Oh, and ALI HANDAL because I saw her perform live, June 14, 2008, and SHE ROCKS!! Here she covers The Knack's "My Sharona" with AUSTIN WILLACY singing backup!
I am also quite fond of the music of these ladies below:
I'm eclectic. I LOVED the LOTR trilogy. Love well-made indies like "Chutney Popcorn". And I just ADORED "Beetlejuice." I can't even figure myself out sometimes.
Television
Current faves are Battlestar Galactica, Bones, House, Heroes, NCIS, Smallville. I watch Supernatural as a guilty pleasure. LOVED the BBC miniseries adaptation of Sarah Waters' novel "Fingersmith". Also a big fan of PBS, and LOVE Austin City Limits!
Books
Mostly fiction: mystery/suspense, scifi. I have "Encounters" by my favorite author Anne Azel by my bedside so I can re-read favorite parts before I go to sleep. I also read this fabulous online music magazine:
About me: I'm a lone wolf and a tough nut to open, though I have been cracked several times. I have found solitude to be a great alternative to rejection. But, I'm also too impressionable for my own good, because I take to heart everything people tell me, too many times.
I used to be an artist. I painted in oils, pen and ink, played guitar and accordion, and even performed in a cabaret show in middle school. After my mother died my life changed and I became a medical research technician. By age 30 the artist was completely gone.
Or so I thought. Since I have gotten to know some musicians, I've gotten little hits of inspiration here and there. Shoot, I've even started playing my instruments again. I've also been entertaining myself by writing reviews and photoblogs of some of the awesome independent singer-songwriters that I've discovered, but only if I feel inclined to promote these characters, because they are just so fabulous that THEY MUST BE EXPERIENCED! After 40+ BLOGS I am now entering my 3rd year and will be adding VIDEO as well as photos to these reviews! To keep up with these reviews, Subscribe to my BLOGS, or post the badge below (made by Howie of ARTISTS EXPOSED) on your page for a direct link!
You scored as Col. Saul Tigh, You never asked to be in charge, so you are happy being the XO. God help you if something happens to the old man. Luckily your drinking is under control and your wife is a good influence on you. Well, you think so anyway.
Who I'd like to meet: Similar lone wolves who share my love of seeing and learning something new. I've been stuck in a science job for 30 years, waiting until I can retire, and I want to experience more, if just viscerally, dammit! I love anecdotes and I love those small glimpses into other livelihoods and experiences, and perhaps learn a few more things. And I someday would LOVE to meet and listen to the live music of this singer/songwriter below:
