While Diplo’s inextricably
linked to a host of mega pop stars, his popularity isn’t based on
image. Rather, he maintains his seat in the upper echelons of the dance
world by staying razor focused on infectious, driving beats and
delivering raucous mixes each and every night he climbs on stage. Those
beats range from baile funk to Miami bass to African kuduro to Jamaican
dancehall and on and on an on. He was arguably the first DJ to
popularize this modern mash-up mix, and his ability to repeatedly
unearth obscure banging beats from the far corners of the globe has
earned him praise as one of the greatest musical anthropologists of
modern times. Diplo’s currently one of the most in-demand Dj’s in the
world and is making one appearance only on Oahu and Maui. Advanced
ticket purchases recommended.

“Favela on
Blast” - Oahu Bonus – 9:30pm Screening: Catch the film screening of
“Favela on Blast” prior to Diplo’s performance at NextDoor. The
documentary, co-produced by Diplo, tells stories of sex, love, poverty
and pride from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. These favelas gave birth
to the now global hit genre, baile funk. By tracking favela beat makers
from enormous parties to neighborhood hangs, the film connects the
audience with an utterly foreign land – one engulfed in deep poverty
and a completely unique way of life. “Favela on Blast” premiered in
March to a sold-out crowd at South by Southwest in Austin, TX.
