Nuwamba, whose name means November in the Nigerian language Hausa, is an extraordinarily innovative singer and songwriter of great depth and passion. His heart-crafted songs touch on a multiplicity of issues often overlooked by the modern music world and offers listeners an acoustic picture of life, love and the prospects of liberation from lifes challenges.
Nuwamba
Soul and R&B artist Nuwamba is an adventurous artist in more ways than one. First off, Nuwamba always demands originality from himself. Music that is patterned after the template laid by another is not speaking from the soul, the source of all great music. Nuwamba is unafraid to try new things while still capturing soulful sounds that make listeners come forth and stick around. He is also adventurous in the realm of the mind. He prefers music that elevates the soul and sends it shooting off into the cosmos. So he figures his listeners want the same and Nuwamba therefore offers it. “Music makes me feel as if I'm space travelin', moving beyond the speed of sound.” But there are few artists who could outstrip Nuwamba's sound.
Simple
But while he strives to maintain original music and fresh ideas, he also believes heartily in the admonition to “keep it simple.” “Simple,” says Nuwamba, “is always better.” But simple doesn't mean easy or boring or unartistic. Find the elements you need, weave them together properly and add the necessary dose of love and passion, and you've got a song. Every tune from Nuwamba exhibits these plain truths and every one of these songs is anything but simple in terms of potency and intelligence.
Depth
While Nuwamba writes in the soul/R&B realm of musical stylings, he finds that inspiration comes from all over. “All music really inspires me,” Nuwamba says. “I love house music, jazz, hip-hop and all of the old greats.” His wide aural scope helps him to find ideas to bounce off of and make his own so that he can deliver the consistently strong songwriting for which he is quickly becoming known.
Acclaim
Nuwamba's hard and talent-filled work has earned him awards and acclaim. He was honored as R&B artist of the year in 2003 by the Fort Worth Music Awards and has been featured in a number of publications, including Vibe, Upscale, The Dallas Observer, The Urban Network, The Fort Worth Weekly (front page!), Billboard, Rolling Out Newspaper and more.
Work
March will see the release of a collection of house remixes by this masterful songsmith. He is also working on a new album for release later in 2007. Nuwamba is currently working with A&R Select, the leading independent A&R firm in Hollywood, CA.
