The headspace program links Coffs Harbour, Bellingen and Nambucca Heads so keep an eye out at your local youth centre for whats haapening. And remember young people are aged between 12-25. headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation. It was established in recognition of the need to respond in better ways to young people with mental health and alcohol and substance use issues. The headspace Community Awareness program is implementing strategies that have an emphasis on improving early help seeking by young people with mental health and substance use problems. The Community Awareness program is complementing and enhancing the innovative work undertaken by other organisations seeking to raise awareness around mental health issues. headspace recognises that more young people and members of the community need to be aware of the signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use problems, and be knowledgeable, willing and confident about seeking help. The Community Awareness program is utilising a combination of community leadership, clinical leadership, media communication techniques, community based ‘grass roots’ approaches and links with major newspaper, television and magazine organisations to deliver its key messages. Novel e-health strategies are being utilised to support local awareness, reduce stigma and support active participation by young persons and their families in choosing treatment options. ..
