Band of Poets is a music and poetry collaboration between John Burgess (words, percussion), Jed Myers (words, guitar, bass, harmonica) and David Rizzi (words, drums).
The three poets take turns reading original works over improvised jazz, blues, country and experimental sounds. Expect ballads and rants, ghosts of Kerouac and Whitman, edginess and tenderness.
Special guests have included Deborah McElroy and Priya Keefe.
Band of Poets makes poetry accessible to a wide audience by combining spoken word with music in the grandest of bardic traditions. We're quirky – our poetry isn't from the School of Quietude; file us under alternative.
We've built a local audience with practiced (but not rehearsed) performances at Richard Hugo House in Seattle, Ballard Public Library and at the Rob Schouten Gallery on Whidbey Island.
