Bio
The Northwest Classical Theatre Company is a non-profit organization founded in 1998 by Artistic Director Grant Turner. We specialize in classic works by great authors with an emphasis on the authors' own writing and not the directors' concept. The NWCTC is the resident company of Portland's most intimate performance space, The Shoe Box Theater (2110 SE 10th Ave. Portland, OR 97214). .. .. .. .. .... .. .. ......The Bridge Lady........ .. .. .... .. .... ....Sharon following the habitrail to the top of the Fremont Bridge. You may have seen him perform primarily for Triangle Productions in such shows as ..Pageant.., ..Shopping & F***ing.., ..10 Naked Men.. and ..Circle... 'Your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And where there is no vision, the people perish.'.. .. ....Colleen Heidebrecht...... ..NWCTC Performances.... Colleen premiered with NW Classical Theatre in their first production at The ShoeBox (..Romeo & Juliet.., 2005) when Grant asked her to play Peter and the apothecary in a cast that included the illustrious Michael Pennington. Richard is an old time member of the NWCTC - in all of the meanings of the term. Grant Turner gave him his first chance at a role with this company when he cast him as the Porter in the 1999 production of ..Macbeth... Since then not a year has gone by that he has not appeared in one or more NWCTC shows. His favorites: The Porter, Hardcastle in ..She Stoops to Conquer.., Polonius in ..Hamlet.., Ward Evans in ..The Matter of J. Robert Oppenheimer.., Paravicini in ..The Mousetrap.., Wargrave in ..And Then There Were None.., and Prospero in The ..Tempest..... .. ....Jayson Shanafelt...... ..NWCTC Performances.... In 2002, Jayson Shanafelt was living out in the middle of the Oregon farmland, literally in a trailer in the middle of nowhere:.. "I remember vividly that it was a summer evening after work. I was coming out of the nearest grocery store in a town about 15 miles away from where I lived. I bought a newspaper as I headed back to my truck. I opened up the Arts and Entertainment section and read that the Northwest Classical Theatre Company was searching for actors for their upcoming production of William Shakespeare’s ..Hamlet... My heart pumped vigorously at just the mention of the possibility, given that although I had plenty of college theatre experience, I had never taken that next step and auditioned for a professional company before. I did love Shakespeare, though. I mustered up the courage to audition…and the funny thing is, I didn’t hear back for weeks. Weeks! By the time I thought I must have totally sucked it and blown the audition, I got a message on my voicemail asking if I would like to be part of their production.".. While he is no doubt thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the NWCTC and its work, he feels much more indebted for the friendships that have been made...and to be allied with such talented, unpretentious people... .. ....Sara Simon...... ..NWCTC Performances.... Sara is absolutely thrilled to be a part of NWCTC where she has most recently appeared in ..Much Ado About Nothing.., ..The Importance of Being Earnest.., and ..Titus Andronicus... She has also performed with Portland Actor's Ensemble, Blue Monkey Theater Company, Oregon Children's Theater, and Portland Center Stage's JAW Festival 2007. A senior at the ..Arts and Communications Magnet Academy.., Sara enjoys good books, good coffee and good people. .. .. ....Bibi Walton...... ..NWCTC Performances.... Bibi made her glorious return to the stage because her adoring son tactfully told her that an old lady was needed in a play he was doing. Since then the NWCTC has not been able to get rid of her. Besides acting and directing she has happily assumed the role of den mother as well as the most frequently noted actor in local newspapers. Love you mom... .. ....Rhianna Walton...... ..NWCTC Performances.... Rhianna Walton has a BA in Literature and Theatre from ..Reed College.. and MA degrees in Modern Jewish Studies and English Literature. She spends most of her time behind the scenes as the NWCTC dramaturg, but occassionally appears on stage, most recently as Rachel Corrie in Think Outside the Shoebox's production of ..My Name is Rachel Corrie.. and as Phoebe in NWCTC's ..As You Like It... She is excited to play Jessica in next season's ..Merchant of Venice.. at the NWCTC! Outside of the theatre, Rhianna teaches English at the ..Art Institute of Portland.. and sells books at ..Powell's... She lives with her handsome husband and their equally attractive cat... .. ....Tom Walton...... ..NWCTC Performances.... Tom's the type of guy that likes to roam around hes never in one place he roam from town to town. And when he finds himself fallin' for some girl he hops right into that car of his and drives around the world, 'Cause hes the wanderer yeah the wanderer he roams around around around around around around... ..(I love you Grant, and you Rhianna, and most of all you scarecrow).... .. ....Melissa Whitney...... ..NWCTC Performances.... Melissa joined NWCTC in 2006 after playing Vera Claythorne in ..And Then There Were None... Since that time, she has worked with NWCTC on a variety of productions and roles; her top favorites being Rosalind in ..As You Like It.., Lavinia in ..Titus Andronicus.., and Montjoy in ..Henry V... During the day, she teaches Special Education for the ..Beaverton School District... Through Northwest Classical, Melissa has been given the opportunity to grow as an artist, travel abroad, as well make some very dear friends along the way!.. .. ....Elizabeth Young...... ..NWCTC Performances.... Elizabeth is originally from England, but she only speaks with a dialect when a role calls for it or if she has too much to drink. She focused on Medieval/Renaissance studies while getting her BS in Theatre from ..Portland State University.., and is happy to be part of a group that actually makes that focus relevant. She maintains the ..website.. for the company and does the trailers (the video kind, not the "Fine, I'll be in my trailer!" kind.).. .. -
