“John T. is great with both experienced and novice players and is great at teaching how to play the guitar as opposed to just learning a song. Definitely seen an improvement in my playing and look forward to each lesson. I recommend him without reservation.” – Manny M.
“John has done what no other guitar teacher has been able to, he has given me a 'formula' for breaking down the whole fret board into different components which enables me to take something learned in one position and use it anywhere on the fret board... I am extremely pleased with my lessons... I walk away from my lessons each week feeling like I learned something new and I am proud of my weekly progress. If you're looking for a teacher who is skilled, patient and fun, and one who will not bore you with endless theory, then John is your man.” - Charisse B.
“If you're looking to master your instrument and you want to learn things that would be practical and useful to your style of playing, John is definitely the best teacher for that. His teaching method is straight forward and easy to understand. Whether you want to be a guitar hero, or just learn your favorite songs, he can help you reach your goals.” –Josh S.
"Since I started taking lessons, my guitar playing has improved a lot. John is a friendly, patient and highly skilled teacher that is teaching me how to master the guitar playing of the music and songs I listen to. 100% reliable and recommended" - Mario
“Great lessons, affordable, John is a great player of all kinds of music. It is a lot of fun and not boring like school.” – Rob M.
"I find John to be a professional and reliable teacher. Even though he has a full roster of students, I feel my lessons are always personalized which let's me know that he's working towards my progress as much as I am." - Rehan

I’m a 35-year-old guitarist from Queens NY, with 20 years of playing experience.
I have a real laid back approach to teaching that keeps the lessons fun while covering all the material that you'll need to become a proficient guitarist.
My lessons are tailored to help each student reach his/her goals on the guitar...whether you just want to learn a few of your favorite songs, or you're interested in learning music theory to understand what it is about those songs that works. We'll work toward your goals...not follow some generic lesson plan!
I teach in Ozone Park NY...just a few blocks from the A train (the 80th street stop in Queens).
My rates are reasonable compared to what I've seen some people charging for lessons.
Beginners through intermediate students of all ages are welcome.
If you have any questions, or if you're interested in scheduling a lesson, you can contact me here or email me at: nyc.guitar.lessons@hotmail.com
Thanks
John

Who I'd like to meet: Anyone interested in taking guitar lessons!
Here's some of what you'll learn:
Open position chords and barre chords:
With the basic open position chords and barre chords under your fingers you’ll be able to play thousands of songs!
Moveable voicings and inversions:
By learning moveable chord voicings and the inversions of those voicings you’ll be able to play any chord in all twelve keys covering the entire fretboard!
Chord extensions and alterations:
Do you get intimidated when you see chords such as Bb7#9#5 or C#6/9?
Do you start searching through the thousands of chord diagrams in your chord dictionary, only to find that some of the voicings don’t sound so great in the song that you’re learning?
I’ll show how you can easily build these chords from chords you already know…and how to use voice leading to find a good inversion of the chord for any particular song or chord progression.
Scale and arpeggio fingerings:
I’ll show you how to play any scale or arpeggio covering the entire fretboard by connecting scale fingers in different positions.
...plus you’ll learn how to use these scales by learning where the chord tones (arpeggios) are in the scale and by learning how to resolve chord extensions and alterations to those chord tones.
Strum Patterns
Palm Muting
Alternate picking
Sweep Picking
Economy Picking (which is a combination of alternate picking and sweep picking)
Hammer-ons
Pull-offs
Bending
Slides
Muting
Most important of all, you'll learn the songs that you want to play! All the knowledge of chords and scales, and all the technique in the world doesn't mean anything if you can't apply it to songs!
So while you'll be learning all of the chords, scales and techniques that I mentioned above, it'll be as a result of learning the songs that you love!
I'm sure it was a certain song that you heard, or performance that you saw that inspired you to pick up the guitar in the first place, so by making songs the priority of my lessons, hopefully you'll stay inspired while learning all the tools you'll need to become a better musician.
