About NY Frequencies
Drum n' Bass is on the cusp of becoming the next form of commercially
successful dance music. Since Roni Size won the Mercury prize in 1997 acts,
have been crossing over to the top 100 dance charts in the UK and soon to be
in the US. The new sound of drum n' bass features energetic vocals as well
as slamming beats, blistering breaks and subsonic bass lines. This is the
"sound of our time". NYF (New York Frequencies) is the product of
engineer/producer Rich Fabrizio and keyboard player Tom Bitondo. Rich comes
from musical as well as production background, having attended Berklee in
Boston and studying guitar, synthesizers as well as MIDI and DAW's. Tom has
been playing synthesizers since their advent in the late 70's. An
accomplished keyboardist as well as instructor, Tom has brought a seasoned
touch to the aggressive sound of NYF. "The sound's that inspires me always
mix the elements of traditional acoustic instruments with synths and
samples" states Rich. "I saw Bukem spin in Boston while I was attending
music school. That night really turned my ears inside out. A few weeks later
Reprezent came to town as well as the Crystal Method. I sold my Les paul
right away and bought a Yamaha AN1X !! " The sound of NYF brings together
Tom's funky,jazz-flavored keyboard parts with Rich's quantized drum breaks,
which are played by drummer Greg Atria of "Fast Eddie". The timing is
perfect for a project that incorporates the elements NYF bring to the dance
floor. Rolling breaks, big bass, soulful vocals and a sound that makes you
shake !
