IT Awards always wants to learn more about the needs of our community - CLICK HERE to take our SURVEY of Off-Off-Broadway demographics!
In addition to our annual recognition ceremony, The IT Awards organization also hosts year-round events. Symposiums, workshops, roundtables and town hall style meetings provide opportunities to bring the community together while helping to share and preserve the heritage of Off-Off-Broadway. SHOW that the broad and diverse membership of the Off Off Broadway community -- actors, producers, directors, designers, YOU -- welcomes a new approach to code reform, one that sidesteps the culture of complaint to articulate points of mutual benefit for actors and producers.
An Off-Off-Broadway that gains the flexibility to operate at its full potential will be the foundation of a theater community at large that is artistically and economically healthy. Join us!
About me: In 1958, the lights came up on the 10 x 10 foot stage of the Caffe Cino in Greenwich Village, and Off-Off Broadway was born. In the past 49 years, this influential arts scene has attracted some of the most talented and courageous artists from across the country, and has spawned the successful careers of countless performers, directors, playwrights, and designers.
Today Off-Off-Broadway continues to be one of the largest arts communities in the world, made up of an estimated 40,000 theatre artists working in an array of theatrical genres and performance styles. Approximately 500 independent and non-profit theatre companies produce 2,000 shows for an estimated 1.5 million audience members in New York City each year!
The New York Innovative Theatre Awards ("The IT Awards") were founded to bring recognition to these individuals and organizations, to honor the artistic heritage of Off-Off-Broadway and to provide a meeting ground for this large and once-disparate group of artists to come together. The organization recognizes the unique and essential role Off-Off-Broadway plays in contributing to the theatrical landscape of New York City as well as American and global cultures. We believe that publicly recognizing excellence in Off-Off-Broadway will expand audience awareness and appreciation of the full New York theatre experience.
In an annual awards ceremony, the IT Awards honor these individuals and organizations who have achieved artistic excellence in the Off-Off-Broadway theatre. Recipients are recognized by their peers and presented with Individual, Production, and Honorary awards by artists who have greatly contributed to the legacy of American Theatre.
Who I'd like to meet: The IT Awards endeavors to help strengthen the community and collective identity of Off-Off-Broadway by involving all levels of the New York theatre community:
Judging Pool - Artists from all levels of Off-Off-Broadway theatre, as well as professionals from the New York theatre and entertainment community at large, evaluate productions through out the season.
Awards Committee - Artistic directors and theatre professionals determine the recipients of the Honorary Innovative Theatre awards.
Volunteers - Members of our community, along with business professionals who give their time and resources to support the New York Innovative Theatre Awards.
Audience - Audience members are also encouraged to vote by C and offering their scores for the fantastic theatre they see!

TO THE DEATH OF MY OWN FAMILY, by David L. Meth, is coming back to the city after a two week tour through four cities in India: Chennai, Bangalore, Pondicherry and Mumbai, where we had to turn away theater-goers and nearly had a riot. So we decided to do an unplanned, second performance. It was standing-room-only and standing ovations throughout the tour. Therefore, I would like to invite all to visit my web site where you can take a tour, see a slide show, and read comments from the Indian press, including Time Out Mumbai:
