The Dialtones formed in late 1996 from remnants of other good Christchurch bands. (The Suspenders, Golfcourse Alligators, Pumpkinhead, SNORT, Bella Figura, NRJS, Triumvirate, Smith the Alien,) Built-on an alluring formula of classic alternative pop/rock n' roll in the manner of (Yo La Tengo, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Bats and Chug) while still maintaining an air of originality and a tightness that has seen them through many years of viewer & listener-satisfying gigs. All of this is also recognisable in the Dialtones debut album, 2004's "Better Late", capturing the live presence and musical prowess of the band through approachable pop songs with a rock sensibility.
"Their songs are based around the song-writing skills of singer/guitarist Fleur de Lis and range from the sprightly pop/rock of their ode to their hometown, City Change, to the country-tinged jangle of Best Part, and on to the tougher rock riffs of Heart Song and More Joy. De Lis's sweet but fragile voice is an integral part of the Dialtones sound and her lyrics conjure up images of insular rooms with large sunny windows and the humdrum world outside inhabited by familiar but unknown faces. The other standout feature of Better Late is that it's chock-full of electric guitars. You can almost feel the warmth rising from the amps as chiming rhythm and lead guitars play tag with each other on the Marquee Moon'esq Future Unseen, or during the Crazy Horse fuzz on Cocoon. It's back to basics stuff, but also bold and beautiful."

Sharkweek is proud to announce the launch of his new album, "Egyptian Lions".
The new album offers lush soundscapes punctuated with surreal samples, playful melodies and manipulated found sounds. The musical themes drift between ambient, pop and dub.
Spheres of inspiration include outerspace, all manner of pop culture, and infomercials. Musical influence comes from varied sources such as The Orb, Future Sound Of London, Orbital, Boards Of Canada, Lemon Jelly, Astralasia, and Banco de Gaia. This eclectic mix, coupled with some stellar guest appearances from other musicians makes for an evocative and sometimes surprising listening experience.
"A mystical journey through lands afar ... trippy soundscapes, psychedelic ambient dub, futuristic space adventures and glitchy electro pop .. an ear orgasm of sounds that twist and turn evolving into a collection of songs that is intriguing, beautiful and a dose of epic electro trippiness.

Over 2 hours to write a song for C4 is indeed slack. Sam Scott should ashamed of his own lack of fast songwriting ability.
The Postgraduates hope for a new generation is that New Zealand has had a gutsful of boring, so called "creative" bands who write anodyne, safe, neo prog for pot smoking hipsters who are as dull as one of Don Brashs ties.
