OAKS (oh-kzz) n.
The term "oak" can be used as part of a common name formed from members of the Tight Bros From Way Back When, Spermatozoa, and Flocking Eduardo. This genus is native to the Northern hemisphere, and includes species extending from the cold latitudes of Olympia, WA and Long Island, NY.
Thanks to Travis (94.9 fm) and Dennis (Pleasure Device) for their superb drumming tactics on Deerhead at the Casbah... these guys are two burly beach bums who be bangin' with the best of 'em!

"San Diego's OAKS may not be an official member of the Wantage family yet but there's a damn good reason why the label is going out of their way to promote the band's debut release. OAKS fit with Wantage like a hand in a glove.
Since Bravo! was produced by Toshi Kasai who served time with The Melvins as their sound engineer and is now the official third member of Big Business, OAKS share a bit in common with The Biz and The Melvins in terms of sheer loudness. This record is so goddamn heavy that I can't even explain it. You just need to give it a listen and bear witness to the three piece's almighty tones. The songs are catchy and memorable in the vein of Big Business as well and vocalist/bassist Marc has got a delivery that's melodic but far from subtle.
I'm thoroughly impressed by these guys. You can hear a myriad of influences in this sound but their calculations have lead to a completely unique sum. I'm sure a wide variety of listeners could dig on this material. There's no set formula but flavors of noise, stoner, psychedelic and grunge all pull equal weight here. If you're a fan of good loud rock then OAKS will surely fit the bill. I'm actually blown away by this and will probably be recommending it to just about anyone who will give it a chance!"

"Ham-fisted San Diego trio OAKS uphold a long tradition of heavy rock music that is not necessarily metal, not so much punk and not attached to any type of ironic classic hits jackassery, thank God. They don’t even sound like MC5.
Instead OAKS are next in a line of bands that extends back to old school smart asses Killdozer, the hick noise metal of Mule, Pac Rim big shots Mudhoney and the terrifyingly awesome Karp. Misfit rock music that is loud as all hell, features yelled, unfriendly vocals and offers zero timeline as far as what the band is up to goes.
Not intended to be groundbreaking, not for hipsters and not old fart rock either. Just rock music made by dudes who would prefer to clear the party rather than get one started."

"This 5 song EP from San Diego band Oaks is on one of the most well produced pieces of non-label supported music I've heard in a long while...
It sounds good in the car, on headphones and through the home stereo. Thick and viscous is the center flavor in each of these choice cuts, making a filling meal of fatty overdriven bass, slavering rhythm peppered by crunchy distorted guitars and expertly executed vocals."
