"In the Spring of 2008, David Bratton and Earl Muehlenbach begin an intensive 6 months of recording, song-crafting, and experimentation. In their closet-sized Greenpoint studio, situated across the street from a fish smoking plant, the couple meticulously compose and record: Dave commanding guitars, horns, vocal harmonies, percussion and a perfectionist's ear for melody and orchestration, as Earl captains vocals, lyrics, bass, guitar, beats, and production. The resulting debut seamlessly weaves cunning pop songs into an undulating bed of beats and synth. Cascades of swirling keyboard, guitar, and bass are infused with surreal narrative, psychoanalysis, mutinous diatribe, horn blasts, hand claps and hairpin turns of dense polyrhythm that take inspiration from a cornucopia of modern music including David Bowie, Talking Heads, Studio 1 dub, Thelonious Monk, Fleetwood Mac, Mouse on Mars and Stevie Wonder among others. Earl and David work and play in Brooklyn, NY, occasionally hitting the West Coast to revisit the flora, fauna and landscape. "
Oars' self-titled debut album ("Oars"), out November 2008, is the band's first project since working together on Wimbledon, and side-projects Pomeranian and Plentyface.
holy fo shizzle. would you believe that i am going to be in new york for the next couple weeks. i get in late tomorrow night. we must hang. it has been toooooo long. xoxo erin@kruufm.com
i wrote about you guys here, but i really couldn't say enough niceness. i'm loving special delivery right now. but there is not one second of the CD that is not a sparkling gem.
I love what you are doing. I'll be at that Pete's candy store show. if any other shows come up inthe meantime please let me know, you're blowing my mind
Crown of leaves, high in the window on a gold morning Young today, old as a railroad tomorrow Days are just drops in the river to be lost always Only you
Years ago, birds of a feather would arrive nightly Gone you know, held to another like clutched ivy On the shore, speak to the ocean and receive silence Only you
Here as the caves of my memory fade, I'll hold to the first one I wouldn't turn to another you say, on the long night we've made Let it go
Speak to me slow my dear, no ghost of course in here, pleased to be lonesome quiet and clear, all is alone in here.
