Obara Melli is the fruit of collaborative efforts between master percussionist and composer Roman Diaz and multi-instrumentalist composer Onel Mulet. Their work is a cohesion of music, poetry and visual mediums. The synthesis created by Obara Melli is a step forward in the evolution of Afro-Cuban musical, oral and visual traditions. Obara Mellis music is founded on the cultural traditions of Cuba, Nigeria as well as the Congo and Calabar regions of Africa. They've combined these influences with Funk, Psychedelia, and Soul, as well as Jazz and spoken word using a Rumba sensibility in the architecture of their sound. Their mission; to spread a humble message of love and tolerance in the tradition of Fela Kuti, Sun Ra, The Grateful Dead , P-funk, Isaac Hayes, Irakere, Bob Marley, Celeste Mendoza, Roy Ayers, Baba Olatunji, Pancho Quinto, King Sunny Ade and Pello y el Afrokan.
