The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window.
The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.

For I will calm you, help you rest
I’m termed Angel, but they call me Mercy.
Though I often wonder, what Mercy am I?
When I sit by a soldier’s side just to watch him die?
I can’t help but question why?
In their delirium, I take the shape of the woman they love
A small kiss to fevered lips allows the soul’s release
From tormented flesh too weak for existence to be.
I pity the officers who must write
To the families of their loved one’s plight
Damning their souls’ to tormented blight.
Never to see their loved one again
Grief and anger make bitter friends
And festering wounds that will not mend.
If they survived the battle, why not the war?
Why does God need to take so many more?
Is He even keeping score?
Buried often in foreign fields
Graves like scars that never truly healed
Like the souls that wonder unwilling to yield.

Author Comments: This poem is dedicated to military nurses and all the boys they lost.
Ohio Battlefield Investigative Team is currently being organized (getting equipped and trained) and are NOT looking for new members. We do not charge for investigations; but Kelly Steed reserves the right to write about the findings with confidentiality respected when requested. We'll begin our first investigation in the spring at sites associated with the Colonel Crawford's Sandusky Expedition into Ohio in 1782.
Our main concentration is military hauntings. Richard and Kelly met through Revolutionary War reenacting, each having many individual and shared paranormal experiences. The team wants to go back to these sites spread over OH, MI, IL, WI, PA, NY, VA and in Canada to validate their experiences and to bring comfort to those souls still in turmoil. It should be noted that though Revolutionary War Reenactors these sites encompass a number of other wars. Like Jay and Grant of TAPS, we want to prove that something exists beyond death through scientific means to confirm that the experiences we've had are not just some flight of fantasy or as Scrooge put it, "brought on by a bit of undigested beef or blob of mustard or a crumb of cheese or an old potato..."
Richard and Kelly found that ghosts identify with re-enactors because of their natural sympathy and often mistake re-enactors for people of their own time. Therefore one of our standard pieces of equipment will be period clothing worn for most investigations.
The other members of our team Cheryl, Melissa, Bert, Brenda and Terri are relatives and all have had paranormal experiences. It is hoped that our combined sensitivities will produce some concrete results. At some point, we will add new members but not until the team is experienced and ready to train them.
THE TEAM:
Kelly Steed: Case Manager, Lead Investigator, Researcher, Webmistress
Kelly is a native Detroiter. She had her first encounter with ghost soldiers at age four and they’ve continued ever since whether in period clothing or out. Kelly began doing independent historical research at thirteen. She holds a bachelors degree in US History from Northern Michigan University. Kelly brings the historian’s dogged determination to find the needle in the haystack answer to the group.
Kelly has written extensively about her paranormal experiences and has been published in FATE Magazine and the Haunted Encounters anthologies: Real-Life Stories of Supernatural Experiences (2003) and Personal Stories of Departed Pets (2004) from Atriad Press and in the soon to be released Spiritual Visitations from Zumaya Publications. One of her future fiction projects “Past Through the Ice” was inspired by two ghostly encounters she experienced years apart on the River Raisin Battlefield in Monroe, MI. Richard Steed: Lead Investigator, Tech Manager, Researcher
Richard was born in Marion, OH into a family where psychic abilities and ghosts were an accepted part of life. Odd occurrences happened in their home on a regular basis and the room Richard shared with his brothers seemed to be a favorite “haunt.”
Richard’s avid passion for military history led him to military modeling, war gaming, collecting books and finally Revolutionary War reenacting at age sixteen. He rose to the rank of corporal of the 10th Virginia Light Infantry before the unit splintered in the mid-1980s. He was with Kelly when she had the first ghostly encounter at the River Raisin Battlefield.
Richard is a certified PC Tech and enjoys building computers. He heads our tech team. He’s also the only member of our team to have performed a successful banishing ritual. He will also be in charge of spiritual cleansing when we are dealing with something or someone particularly nasty or violent.
Cheryl Steed: Investigator, Tech-in-Training
Cheryl was born in Marion. As a little girl, she saw a male ghost with a handlebar mustache in the back bedroom of her grandmother’s house. As an adult, she went on ghost hunting forays with a friend garnering numerous personal experiences years before the Ghost Hunters program aired.
Cheryl is a 1976 graduate of Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Elementary Education and has worked both as a private tutor and in technical jobs.
Around the house, she’s a Miss Fix-it and has never been afraid to tackle new projects and learn new skills so adding her to the tech team was a no-brainer.
Melissa: Investigator, Tech-in-Training
Melissa was born in Marion. She is Brenda’s daughter so she grew-up surrounded by ghostly activity. As a teen, she learned a valuable lesson when an experiment with an Ouja Board produced some terrifyingly results. (Note: This team does not advocate the use of Ouja Boards or table tipping!!) The board went out in the garbage the following day.
Melissa has always worked in the technical field and is very handy with a computer. She’s been assigned to our tech team.
Bert Steed: Investigator
Bert was born in Osceola, Ohio.
Her family later moved into a haunted house in Marion. She said her parents should have known something was up with the house because all the interior doors had been removed. They soon discovered the removal was for good reason, as the sound of doors opening and closing was a noisome constant. There were three ghosts inhabiting the house a female and two males. The sound of a baby crying was often heard as well. Years later a baby’s body was found under the front stairs when the house was raised.
Bert passed away December 8, 2007. She will be greatly missed!
Brenda Adkins: Investigator
Brenda was born in Marion. When Bert was carrying her, the female ghost in her mother’s home sat on the bed as she rested and told Bert that her baby would be fine. The woman was never seen again. Whether the land had once been part of a family cemetery belonging to a house from an earlier period is unknown.
As a teen, Brenda went with friends in search of Headless Hattie at the Watkins Road Bridge in Franklin County, OH. Headless Hattie is an Ohio legend, and like most legends, there’s more than one version all involve a woman or one of her loved ones meeting a tragic end.
Brenda raised her children in a haunted farmhouse in Richwood, OH. Often she would hear footsteps come down the back stairs, followed by bathroom sounds, and rose to discover that neither one of her children were out of bed. The kitchen was a particular hot spot for activity causing their pets to refuse to enter it.
Brenda was made part of the investigative team because of fearlessness in searching into the unknown.
Terri: Investigator-in-Training
Terri was born in Marysville, OH. She is currently in grade school and only accompanies the team to scout locations for potential investigations.
At age two, she’d often yell, “I’m coming!” and race off up the stairs to meet her ghostly playmate in the house her parent’s were renting. After they moved, the girl was not seen again. The night Terri’s Great Uncle Randy passed away she woke from a sound sleep and told her mother, “Randy says he’s okay.” Before Melissa received notification.
Many teams my think it unprofessional to include a child. Well when that child (age 5 at the time) tells you things about a deceased family member she never met and has had memories of past lives in such diverse locations as India from the time she could speak, her gifts outweigh her age.
Terri is a huge Ghost Hunters fan!
