What "THEY" Say:
ObLiViOn was a seminal punk rock group from the Chicago area. The band was comprised of Pete (bass guitar/lead vocals) Scott (guitar, vocals) and Brian (drums.) The group started as a rock+heavy metal cover band'ish in 1988, but their style solidified to have more of a punk/speed pop focus by the early 1990's. During the mid-late 90's, Oblivion had a strong following in the Chicago/Midwest punk scene, New Jersey, and in Chorpus Christi, Texas. Their musical stylings borrowed equal parts from rock, metal, and punk. They released a number of 7"s, LP's, CD's and comps primarily on Johann's Face Records, although they also released music on Suburban Home, Sinister, Dr. Strange, Underdog, and other indie lables. Songs often commented on social interactions, stories about troubled girls, and relationship issues seen from a cryptic moody perspective. The group sometimes made social commentary but mostly in an indirect and self-debasing way. After more than a decade of playing together, the group disbanded. They played a farewell show in March of 2000 at the Fireside Bowl in Chicago.
After the group parted, Brian moved to Florida to work on a big cat sanctuary with lions & tigers. Scott formed the Nobs, while Pete continued to play in Mexican Cheerleader, a band that started while Oblivion still existed.
Oblivion reunited in Jan 2001 with The Fighters & Sludgeworth at the Cubby Bear in Chicago and again on December 29th, 2006 at the Abbey Pub (Chicago) with pals Apocalypse Hoboken.
*2009 Update: All 3 live and work somewhat normal jobs around the Chicago area. Pete plays in MEXICAN CHEERLEADER, Brian joined VENOM LORDS (r.i.p.) for 2009, and now he and Scott are half heartedly looking around for bands. ObLiViOn says THANK YOU and this site is for you!
Thanks a lot for the add! EletriKa sounds completely different from any Metal band you have ever heard. The Brazilian rhythms and the Portuguese language added to the songs makes its style unique, giving birth to a new kind of Metal.
