Sounds Like
Nico, Velvet Underground, Queens of the Stone Age, Gang of four.... Genreless really!
obLONG thrive on tension, but what else would you expect. The creative force behind the band – Steve Genn is a man possessed - with more energy than most crowds can muster. A man with a story to tell - a time served musician in constant search of the golden era of post punk creativity – still searching for his muse. Until now.
So throw in the mix a feisty pocket rocket from Steve’s home town of Sheffield – who can belt out a tune or snarl out a message. The diminutive Tracy, cool as fuck and only 22 - holds her own – fighting for the right to be heard.
Tracy’s musical reference points defy her age and keep her fully versed in obLONG’s musical roots – from Velvet Underground to the Ramones to The Prodigy and back via Leftfield.
On every track the sparks literally fly – Tracy’s youthful take on a classic sound – battling it out with Steve’s manic guitar musings and jealous guarding of his long lost muse. . .
Supported by a truly accomplished and stripped down back line with Hugh Ruiz on Bass and the manic metronomy of John Smith on drums, obLONG are electrifying live and perversely addictive.
With a nod and a wink to the Velvet Underground, Portishead and the Gang of Four they remain however defiantly genreless.
What did you expect . . . a square peg? A round hole?
obLONG – join in.
