Review of Metal All-Dayer in aid of Motor Neurone Disease Obsidian Rain This wasn't the last band - the last band was Oxzide - but because of leaving early this is the last band that shall be reviewed. The style of the band is fabulous classic and glam rock, and they truly did make the evening sparkle. These guys had been going for a bloomin' long time but still knew how to rock. The crowd loved them! GRAPE REVIEWS Obsidian Rain @ Scruffy Murphys Now the idea was that we were gonna have a look at killing zoe at this venue tonight, as i'd read somewhere, so when we got in the place found they were already on stage, halfway through their final song of the night! They were the support act! Sounded bloody good though, so we'll be watching out for them to see if we can see a bit more of em next time. Headlining tonight was Obsidian Rain, they play a mixture of their own material with a few cover versions thrown in for good measure, citing their influences from the sleaze rock of Enuff Z Nuff and Skid Row to Van Halen, they open with one of their own songs Every Dog with vocalist Rich Southan snarling out the lyrics which reminded me of James Hetfield from Metallica, another of their own songs Nowhere to Hide followed, both of which are available to listen to on the bands Myspace website, next up was a storming version of Queens Tie Your Mother Down with Daz Wright on Guitar having a great time, even though i'd not heard any of their own meterial before the songs were very easy to get into and mixed in with some great covers made for a very good set, with perhaps the exception of Led Zeps Rock And Roll which could have done with being a bit faster and with more bollocks, luck it seems is not on the bands side as lately though, with bassist Clare Mallen playing with her foot in plaster, and all of the bands amps and speakers being nicked out the back of their van a few days before the gig, so they were playing tonights gig with loaned stuff, but it didn't seem to let it bother them, a special mention to Danny Dragon, who is one of the best drummers I've seen in a long time, he really pounded out each song as if it was the last thing he would ever do, brilliant, if you like a bit of sleaze crossed with punk and 80's metal, the band are playing regularly around the area so do your best to get to one of their gigs you'll have a fine time.
