"Ocarina who took minds high and low in relentless waves, filling us with energy from within with their unique mix of psychedelic soul, trip-hop, and broken beats, using looped and scratched drum beats intertwined with violinists and a vocalist. While bass carried bodies to a point of unstoppable motion, vocalist Emma Stockton’s harmonious voice led souls through the music and beyond to the next level. Without sounding like too much of a hippie, their set was an accumulation of the spiritual evolution of the mind all splurged out through the punch-packing sound system. Hopefully, Ocarina’s minds will continue to evolve and bring us more of this."
"Alluring laidback broken beats and trip-hop influenced new age-ness with live strings and a soulful feel (thanks mostly to the velvet vocals of Emma Stockton). Ocarina are a collective of disparate artists from the worlds of rap, rock, soul and classical music marshalled by Swansea producer Simon Baines."
In March 2006 Swansea born MC and Producer Simon Baines created remixes of vocalist Emma Stockton’s original jazz/folk based songs to form what would be the base of a musical collaboration and recording project, ‘Ocarina‘. Their diverse influences produced a mixture of soul, trip-hop and broken beats. Fortunate enough to be surrounded by a wealth of professional musicians, Simon and Emma began to use string players Gemma Cumming, Helen Bower, Sarah Telman and Allen Bradbury who became an integral part of Ocarina’s individual sound.
Over a two year period Ocarina wrote and produced their first album aptly entitled ‘Lovely Weather For Ducks’ at Orange and Blue Music, with guest appearances from saxophonist Andrew McDonell, trumpet solos from Arif Driessen and Urdu, reggae beat poetry from Babar Luck.
Alongside writing their album Ocarina have been gradually building an excellent reputation and fan base by playing live gigs supporting acts such as the London Breakbeat Orchestra on various occasions, Tor, Contingency Plan, and Breakbeat DJ’s Willott & Kong, Skinny & Clarky and Miss Max.
Ocarina have appeared at events including The Festival Of Youth Arts (Islington Carling Academy, London), Graffiti Breakz (Purple Turtle, Rhythm Factory, London), Braindrop (Jacks, London), LBO Christmas Party (Live Bar, London), Goldsmith’s Student Union, (London) The Dragons Ball (The Green Dragon, Croydon), The Final Malcdown (Orange & Blue Music, London), Beatroot (The Dirty South, London), Ant & Judes Wedding Festival, (Llanthony Priory, Wales), Made in Deptford Music Festival,(London) The Alma (Crystal Palace), The Fox & Firkin (Lewisham), Tufnell Park Dome, (Tufnell Park).

Somewhere at an undisclosed location, evil scientists have been developing a serum of broken beats, basslines, Digital visual and spray-can art, so potent it will raise the dead. After what has seemed like an age Graffiti Breakz is proud to present the effects of our serum...
.....We give you Graffiti Breakz – The Resurrection.! Sat 31st Oct ’09 (Halloween)
Graffiti Breakz has gained the reputation of being one of the only events in London to successfully combine Breaks, Hardcore Breaks, Drum and Bass’ Live music and Live Graffiti art all under one roof
Now with a larger venue and longer opening hours we will be adding to the mix Dubstep’ Electro/Dubstep, Live Breaks acts, Full Graff art Instillations, Full Graff Art Galleries, More Giveaways, Brighter Lights, and Louder bass to create a vibe re-born; stronger and more electric than any Graffiti Breakz so far..
All 3 rooms will be in session to their full potential. As you enter the rhythm factory you‘ll be met by the artwork of some of London’s leading artists showcasing at the Graffiti Gallery.
As you pass the gallery instillation, and live 6’x4’ Artwork being created in the front bar you arrive in the main room bursting with Live Acts’ DJ Teams, visual displays and much more.
Drifting further into the East London venue, you will find dirty dubstep, kick driven breaks, and the addictive rumble of dark and dirty bass.
Gracing the stages of the 2 Dance floors we have a line up that includes award winning Djs; Apply The Breaks, pioneering producers; Ctrl-z, inspiring funk soul band; Junkyard scientists, and leading the way in the live breaks scene; Diverted. Wooohaaaaa!!! Braindrop is throwing its very first boat party on Saturday 6 June.
The vessel is specially equipped to hold large groups of people (and all the extra bass bins we can squeeze on). Her name is The Dutch Master and she be a mighty fine boat too!
It's going to be a ridiculously fun rinse up. However, if you think you can get away with being remotely serious and/or cool at this party - ye be mistaken. The Braindrop Boat Rave is fancy dress: Pirate's from the 80's. Arrgh...better get thinkin what ye gonna wear.
D&B / DUBSTEP / TECHNO / BREAKS / ELECTRO / HARDCORE / HIP HOP / GABBA / BREAKCORE / PSYTRANCE / RAVE... and lots more!
The boat will leave St.Katharines Pier (London) at 9pm and return at 2am. Tickets are £20 and you can get them from TICKETWEB.
For more info check www.braindrop.co.uk. Arrrrgh me hearties!

Packing me boots, stringing me guitars and getting ready for the next two weeks. Don't be frightened to shout out any songs off the album you want to hear and don't forget the crazier you are the crazier we are.
Look forward to seeing you in the asylum at the end of the tour.

The other Si did a good job when we played the fox, but with the extra guitar it was like WHAM, good bye sound system! The boys are fiddling around with different frequencies to see if we can get a more even sound.

This country's in a weird, feeble, grotesque state and it's about time it got out of it, and the only reason it could get out of it is ELECTRO! DANCE! MUSIC! And we believe Simon Baines, Emma Stockton, Ocarina could RISE this country out of its decadent, ambient state more than Brown and all those crappy people could ever hope to achieve!!!
