COPIES OF CDs MAY BE OBTAINED FROM; www.fourdogsmusic.co.uk.. COUNTER CULTURE in HIGH WYCOMBE.. A MESSAGE LEFT HERE... .... The Big Untidy Shop.. TO READ A FULL INTERVIEW WITH THE BAND GET ON TO www.biguntidy.com IT'S A HIGHLY ENTERTAINING MAGAZINE....
OCCASIONALLY DAVID are a long established band. But the band that is out now and gigging is CLIVE WHITELOCK, electric guitar and vocals and ASHLEY WHITELOCK, electric bass. Ashley does it as a side issue because his band THIS DYING HOUR takes up most of his time. BRASSNECK'S bass player, NEIL SMITH, described our sound as "Stripped-down Psych rock" and I am indebted to him for that entirely unsolicited description. ....
They are, however, essentially CLIVE WHITELOCK and RAY BATE. They released the vinyl EP (The 'TWIST AND SHOUT EP' which doesn't contain that track) in 1979 and the single 'I CAN'T GET USED TO LOSING YOU (SO I'M COMING BACK)' in 1980. Both were played extensively by JOHN PEEL.....In 1987 came FOREVER CHANGES, a complete cover version of the LOVE classic album. It was released on limited edition cassette and sold throughout the world. It was recorded entirely in Ray's bedroom and only Clive and Ray are featured on the recordings..... The two vinyl releases featured the quirky but highly effective lead guitar playing of BUFF GRIFFITHS, the general all-round talent of SABIR AHMED (bass and guitar) and on the single the dependable bass work of ROGER BATCHELOR. These three were also the mainstays of the live band. Drums on the EP were played by Ray and percussion by ANDY GREEN. Drums on the single by ROBIN PEARCE and of course, DAVE PARSONS on the old slide trombone. Good vibes to you all wherever you are!.... 1997 saw the release of MICKLEFIELD, a CD packed with fantastic WHITELOCK/BATE songs which were light years away from the punky stuff they wrote for the early releases. It is crammed with great musicians and the whole venture means a great deal to us. Special mention must go to the guitar work of JOHN BAUGH and the bass and guitar work of SABIR AHMED. .... AUGUST 2009 SAW THE RELEASE ON CD OF FOREVER CHANGES. 100 LIMITED EDITION AND IT'S ON OVEN READY ONLY..... 'STONE ME BARRY IN THE MORNING' and 'OLD FLAMES (BURN FOREVER)' come from our CD 'MICKLEFIELD'. It features practically everyone who has ever played with Occasionally David over the years.....The tune 'DRIPPING DOG OF PINYARD ROBIN' comes from the 1995 unissued EP, 'MY COAT IS A TUESDAY TREE' and is by CLIVE WHITELOCK multi-tracked... The song 'THEME FROM BIG UNTIDY' was performed by OCCASIONALLY DAVID (CLIVE WHITELOCK vocs and guitar and ASHLEY WHITELOCK bass) and was recorded live at a BIGUNTIDY NIGHT OUT in 2009).. "VITRIOL' was recorded in 1986 by OCCASIONALLY DAVID with CLIVE WHITELOCK on lead vocals and background guitar and RAY BATE on keyboard, drums and backing vocals. CLIVE got the idea from the cover of an INSPECTOR WEST novel of the 60s. .. 'WE WON THE WORLD CUP' is CLIVE and RAY. Before we didn't win the world cup in 1982 we wrote this song in honour of our winning it in 1982. It comes from the unreleased EP, 'THE BUZZARD SISTERS GET STUNG BY A BEE' ..In July 2008, thanks to some flattering attention from BIGUNTIDY online magazine, CLIVE WHITELOCK decided to gig again using the original CLIVE WHITELOCK/RAY BATE songs. Enlisting the help of THIS DYING HOUR'S guitarist, ASH WHITELOCK, on bass, the new Occasionally David duo played a set at the BIG UNTIDY NIGHT OUT at the RISING SUN ARTS CENTRE in Reading. The first live gig since supporting Lindisfarne in the 80s. And we haven't looked back since. THANK YOU BARRY UNTIDY AND CLIVE PRODUCT.... IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE WORLD, SHOP AT ..www.ethicalwares.com .. YOU NEED IT, IT NEEDS YOU. .. AND IT STOCKS OUR CDs.
