Although genre-bending is becoming something common these days, never before has any Dutch band interweaved progrock, psychedelia, indie/postrock and stonermetal in such an original and organic manner.
Together with producer Marcel van de Vondervoort (Astrosoniq, Zeus, Julian Sas), Oceana Company worked on defining their own sound in the Torture Garden Studio, resulting in their debut album "For The Boatman."
In between the different recording- and mixsessions, the band did a lot of gigs with a wide range of acts like The Pineapple Thief, US Christmas, Epica, Dozer among others. It proofs that Oceana Company’s typical melodies, dynamics, melancholy and the use of antique yet charming keyboard instruments (like a vintage mellotron), attracts a broad range of people.
In January 2008 the band generates positive attention in the Dutch media. The selfreleased EP “Promo 2007” becomes “Demo of the Month” in FRET Magazine and get’s raving reviews. The song “Trenchfever” gets airplay on national radio and becomes a modest internet hit, reaching nr.1 in the Dutch Indie Chart and “Hit Of The Week” on Radio Mortale.
The band records the song “A Real Place” in their own studio, for the compilation album “Get Loaded 3”. Label interest arises and a deal is closed with SpaceJam Records (ao. Astrosoniq, Gomer Pyle, Flying Fortress, The Lizst).
In October 2008, the debut album “For The Boatman” sees the light of day, again to high acclaim (OOR, Music Maker ao). Oceana Company gets praised for their originality and strong identity, although some reviewers site the music as slightly comparable with Isis, Anathema, Radiohead, Motorpsycho & Porcupine Tree.
The first halve of 2009 mainly existed of promoting the "For The Boatman" album through gigs, interviews etc. But coming summer will be spend in the studio, writting and recording new material for the upcoming second album. Also the band has been elected for the prestigious "Popronde 2009" and will prepare a special set, so come check em out in their natural live habitat this coming fall!
