Ocean Beach is a beach community located in San Diego California just east of downtown. Ocean Beach is known for being a laid back place that greatly dislikes corporate food chains, companies that pollute the enviroment, and basically anything that takes away from it's hometown surf city atmosphere. The people in Ocean Beach range from hippies, students, bikers, surfers and a host of young professionals that make Ocean Beach their home.
Tie dye t-shirts and being vegatarian are also big and popular and there are a host of great restaurants and healthy organic places to shop.
Local long time 35 year resident Rich Grosch considers Ocean Beach to be the last true surf community in Southern California. Rich owns the Ocean Beach Hotel and you can see our photo article with his classic 1949 Woodie DeSoto in our profile section. The main thing is Ocean Beach is hip, cool, has one of the BEST farmers markets in San Diego (Wednesday from 3:30PM until 7:00PM) some awesome healthy (and not so healthy) restaurants and the longest pier on the west coast which makes for great walks and photos. Ocean Beach is one cool place to live or visit so if you get a chance walk around and check out some of the awesome antique stores, surf shops, record stores or restaurants...you will have a great time and be happy you did!

The Ocean Beach Municipal Pier is located at the south end of the beach and is available to the public for walking and fishing. There is a restaurant and bait shop on the pier. Fishing from the pier does not require a fishing license, but catch regulations are enforced.

Numerous restaurants, surf shops, and other commercial establishments are available near the south end of the beach. The north end of the beach is primarily bordered by residential homes, apartments, and estates.
One unique feature of Ocean Beach is Dog Beach, a sandy area at the north end. This is a dog run area where dogs are permitted without a leash at all hours of the day. Dog owners are responsible for control and clean-up of their dogs. Standard dog laws apply on other portions of Ocean Beach and are strictly enforced. This is a great place to visit and is one of the only beaches in San Diego where dogs run free 24 hours a day.
