Endurance. This is the name of the ill-fated ship lead by Ernest Shackleton on an expedition through the Antarctic. The story associated with Shackleton and The Endurance is however, one of the greatest survival stories of all time. During his Trans-Antarctic voyage, Shackleton’s ship, The Endurance, became frozen in the ice. Through his great leadership abilities, Shackleton got his crew to refuge on Elephant Island and then embarked on an 800 mile journey across the open Antarctic Ocean with only 4 other men to South Georgia Island. They traveled difficult mountainous terrain to reach a whaling station where they chartered a rescue ship to retrieve his stranded crew. The entire ordeal took 22 long months and they endured some of the coldest and darkest times of the Antarctic seasons. In the end, all 28 men who started the mission on The Endurance were rescued.
Endurance is also the story or mantra of the Minneapolis band, Oceans, and is a story of survival as well. The endurance of its members and mostly by its originator, Davide Raso, is the reason it is here today. Members have come and gone, many singers have auditioned and/or been a part of the band, and the band itself was almost entirely deconstructed at one point. The determination to endure, to keep the spirit alive, and get the music out there, that has been made with such strong feelings and emotions, is what has made Oceans what it is today. Our “voyages” have not crossed hundreds or thousands of miles, but have landed and departed through numerous practice spaces. Our adventure is not about the survival of men, but about survival of songs. To name the first EP “Endurance” was the logical consequence and it wouldn’t deserve to be named different.
We chose Oceans as our band name because an ocean has many forces and dynamics and so does our music. Everything in the ocean is part of a living system. Everyone in Oceans is an equal part, contributing to its “system”. We hope that our lyrics and music take your mind on a journey – and know that we will bring you safely home.
~Oceans

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed." -Albert Einstein
