    ................ The Ocean Valley Boys (OVB) is a unique acoustic band that formed in January 2009. They made their first public performance at The Shakori Hills Grassroots Music Festival in Silk Hope, North Carolina in April 2009. Playing a combination of originals as well as folk, rock and bluegrass/new grass cover songs, OVB competed against 20 other groups to win the Best New Band Contest at Shakori Hills. Their exciting new arrangements, featuring tight harmonies and complex acoustic instrumentations, invite the audience to toe-tap, sing along and dance..... Since their successful debut, OVB has played at a variety of regional venues closer to home, in the NY/NJ/CT tri-state area. Spanning 40 years in age, the band consists of veteran singer-songwriter guitarist, Mike Hamill, accompanied by the father-son duo of Jeff (banjo) and Manny (bass) Silverstein, and the father-daughter combination of Hil (mandolin) and Jessi (vocals) Mumma. .... With a repertoire as varied as their ages, OVB’s eclectic acoustic style offers original songs, interesting arrangements of standard folk/roots music, and covers from artists that range from classic Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, Beatles, Rolling Stones and Neil Young tunes, to newer material from artists such as Steve Earle and The Del McCoury Band..... The Band:.... ..Mike Hamill....Mike has played as a solo artist and in folk and rock bands for over 40 years. At age 16, his band won a regional contest against 30 other bands. He has played the college circuit and in theatrical pit bands for shows such as Godspell and Hair. His influences include The Kingston Trio, Rolling Stones, Tom Paxton, Gordon Lightfoot and Jonathan Edwards. He combines his smooth Irish baritone voice with strong rhythm guitar skills to provide the foundation for OVB’s music..... ..Hil Mumma....A classically-trained violinist in his youth, Hil turned to guitar after playing a year with the Syracuse University Symphony. Hil has played guitar in a rock band and in an acoustic group. He also sang for many years in a church choir, including extensive solo work. Influenced by David Grisman, Sam Bush and later Chris Thile, Hil turned his focus to the mandolin in the ‘90s. In recent years, he has enjoyed sitting in with the Massachusetts-based acoustic group, Shananagans..... ..Jeff Silverstein....Jeff cut his musical teeth playing keyboards in the ‘70s, but once he took up banjo in college, he was hooked. As a perpetual student of the instrument, “Doc” can provide flawless traditional banjo licks, but he really shines when his creative energy flows from the music. Influences include Earl Scruggs, Jens Kruger, Jimmy Arnold and Ben Eldridge. A favorite musical memory is serving breakfast to Bill Monroe as a young stage hand at the Berkshire Mountain Bluegrass Festival in Ancramdale, NY..... ..Manny Silverstein....Manny began taking piano lessons when he was six years old. By age 12, he was playing electric bass, and learned the upright bass when he was 15. In the past few years, Manny has written and performed an original score for a play, has played bass in pit bands for local musicals, and, with his rock band, Scam, has performed original music at Don Hill’s and The Knitting Factory in Manhattan. This young virtuoso adds his own creative bass lines to both OVB covers and originals.....
