About me: WHO ARE OCEAN YOUTH TRUST IRELAND?
Ocean Youth Trust Ireland is an educational charity which owns and operates 2 sail training vessels. The vessels operate under the Maritime and Coastguard Agency 'Code of Practice for Sail Training Vessels' Which regulates the vessel's construction, safety equipment and qualifications for our sea staff. Safety is of paramount importance and our staffing levels are in excess of those required by MCA and Irish Department of Marine Safety.
WHAT WILL I LEARN ON BOARD?
Sailing:
It would be easier to tell you what the crew don't learn on board. the efficient running of the boat is entirely due to the teamwork of the crew, there is no room for passengers. There are very few tasks that one person can do alone. In your team or watch, under the supervision of a mate, you will be running boat on deck while sailing or at anchor. This will include hoisting; lowering and adjusting sails; steering; keeping lookout; filling in the hourly log, and plotting the vessel's position on the chart. When leaving from or arriving at a harbour, the whole crew will be involved in getting sails ready and sorting out fenders and mooring lines.
TAKING IT FURTHER:
We are always looking for keen and committed new bosuns and watchleaders. If you want to do a bit more, speak to a member of the OYTI team about training as a member of a volunteer sea staff. We would love to have you aboard!

Thats a nice flag you got there... All the best with the sailing, the high seas, the salty seas dogs, the yo-ho-ho, the bottle of rum, the "Earlie" in the morning, and the scurvy dogs... I always wanted to be a pirate too... Pete
