Photobucket The Sheriff is an elected constitutional officer with a 4-year term. The primary duties are to keep and preserve the peace; supress riots, unlawful assemblies and insurrections; serve process papers in civil and criminal cases; take custody of persons arrested for state offenses by law enforcement agencies; and operate the county jail. The Sheriff has law enforcement authority throughout the entire county of 720 square miles with 700,000 residents, provides primary law enforcement srvices to unincorporated areas and assists local law enforcement agencies serving cities and towns.
