Owen Clarke was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica on January 13, 1985, the oldest of 3 children.
The tropical settings of Jamaica would soon be a thing of the past as Owen and his family moved to New Jersey when he was three years old. Plainfield was a far cry from his birthplace as it is a three-mile long stretch filled with gang violence and drugs. Until he was 13, Owen lived in a house with 16 mouths to feed and two bathrooms for the whole family. It wasn’t long before Owen fell victim to the streets getting into minor trouble here and there. Despite his problems and barely attending school, he managed to pass his classes. It was at this time when the musical seed was plated in Owen’s mind as he played drums in the school band. Band being one of the few classes that he enjoyed, Owen soon found himself getting submerged in hip-hop music. An older cousin furthered his passion by introducing him to Redman, Das EFX, and Mobb Deep. That was all Owen needed to hear. From that point on, you could rarely find him not writing lyrics. Wanting to be a well round musician, Owen even took a stab at production but found that his strength was in his lyrics. While a fan of all types of music it was Jay, Nas, Kanye, Biggie, Big Daddy Kane, Cam'ron, Mase, and Big L who truly influenced the young MC. It wasn’t long before Owen Clarke was gone and OC The Great was born. Known as a talented lyricist, the buzz around OC started to build in his area and he soon became a member of the hottest group in town, Crack Music. They were the first group to sell CD/DVD combos. The group killed the local scene and was drawing some major attention. Somewhere along the way, things began to not work out as expected and OC The Great decided to take matters into his own hands. He formed his own independent label Big Business Ent., bought a studio in Atlanta, and released his debut album The Price Is Right. OC The Great is the epitome of an MC and is sure to put New Jersey in its rightful place, at the top of the hip-hop food chain. When asked what it is he wants to accomplish in hip-hop OC says, “What I’m basically tryna do wit my music is speak for my generation. Its time for someone to step forward and speak about what’s going on with us. All I’m trying to do is be heard.” It’s only a matter of time before it happens.
