October Sky is a rock band originating from Montreal that was founded in 2000. Over the years, October Sky has grown from aspiring teenagers to hard working young men. Their sound and drive has grown immensely since the band’s conception. The line-up consists of Karl Raymond (vocals & guitars), Alex Racine (drums), Yanik Rouleau (keyboards) and Andrew Walker (bass).
Things have been busy for October Sky in the last few years since they have come in first place in several competitions. Their eponymous EP was released in 2006 and has sold 1000 copies at their live performances. They spent eight months living in Toronto, gaining a new fan base and becoming a top finalist at Toronto Indie Week. After their return to Montreal, they recorded their debut full-length album “Hell Isn’t My Home,” which was officially released September 2, 2008 in stores and online.
October Sky’s strengths lie in their determination and hard work; everything they have accomplished thus far has been self-produced. October Sky broke the barriers of self-produced shows for independent bands with their concert at Espace Dell’Arte on May 23, 2008 in Montreal. The sold-out show featured two hours of music, a complex light show, and video effects, including live footage displayed on large screens. To date, they have self-produced five big shows with sell-out crowds of up to 500 people, the latest one being at The National in Montreal on September 27, 2008, which opened their first cross-Canadian tour, in promotion for “Hell Isn’t My Home.” The one month tour featured 20 shows in 15 different cities from Montreal to Vancouver.
In the last year, they launched their official website, online store and Fan Space website. They released their video for “Hit the Ground,” which is in rotation on MUCH Loud and Musique Plus. The video for their second single, “Hell Isn’t My Home,” was released in February 2009. Street teams have been popping up all over the world including throughout North America as well as the UK, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Belgium and Brazil. Role Model Clothing, owned by two of Simple Plan’s members and Chris Ashkar, has become the official sponsor of October Sky.
