Odd Austin is a comedy/parody musician from Longmont, Colorado who writes funny songs about funny things that are funny.
Austin’s interest in comedy music started at a young age. His uncle had tons of funny songs and skits on his computer that he played quite often. By listening to these songs Austin got his first look into the world of comedy music. It wouldn’t be until years later in 4th grade that he would discover “Weird Al” Yankovic from a friend who was singing ‘Yoda’ out loud in class.
After Austin first heard Al, he immediately became a fan. Soon after he went on a mad frenzy to collect all of Al’s studio albums. In 2002 Austin began writing his own comedy lyrics in a composition book. Daily he’d write parodies and original songs based off of whatever random stupid idea he came up with. These songs were (In every definition of the word) awful. Usually having no initial talent would deter some people from proceeding in a hobby, but nonetheless Austin marched forward (Figuratively of course, why would he march for any real reason?).
In 2004 Austin tried to record some of these songs in the most pathetic way possible, a tape recorder! Obviously these songs sounded terrible, but soon he moved on to recording slightly less horrible sounding songs on an actual recording system. In late 2005 he had his first demo album, a small ten track CD with ‘songs’ and stuff on it. The following year he released five more demo albums that were each equally bad.
In 2007, Austin decided it was time to start work on an official debut album. The only problem was his recording equipment was the suck. Luckily, a beacon of hope glimmered in the pollution infested sun as Austin discovered Ted Wilson, a local engineer who was offering to rent his studio to Colorado musicians. Soon after Austin recorded his first album: “Wrong Side of the Bed” in what is now known as Megated Studios.
Since then Austin has been played on The Dr. Demento Show, The Mad Music Show, The Mad Music Dementia Top 20, Kahn Man’s Comedy Corner, and countless others. He has written the official theme song for the nerdcore music festival: Nerdapalooza, and has sold a whole half a dozen CDs! His music has been described as hilarious and clever by many and has been referred to as ‘The Next Weird Al’. At the age of 17, Austin is one of the youngest comedians in the dementia music community today, and is opening doors to a promising future in the music industry.
Still think Austin's some sort of nerd demon? Well, see what other great comedy folks think:
"Odd Austin is a young and impressive talent. He's got the tools to make you laugh and knows how to use them."
-Digital Laughter
“Odd Austin's music is recommended by 9 out of 10 psychologists he sees.”
-Matt Hodgson
“One of those people I really admire quite a bit, he’s only fifteen years old and yet he’s got so many songs out, it just makes your head spin” and "He's the new Weird Al".
-Captain Wayne
"With acts like you (age 15), Nuclear Bubble Wrap (age 18), and Soggy Potato Chips (age 18), I think it's safe to say that the future of dementia is in very capable hands! Rock on, dude!"
-DJ Particle
"Truly one of the better song writers out there keep up the GREAT work!"
-Reverend Zach
"'Old People' has some funny lines. A bit insensitive, for sure, but that helps make it funny."
-Dr. Demento
"Enjoyed the Old People song! The Atari song made me nostalgic for those old video games. I never could master Asteroids but it's not hard to find a Galaga game still operational in a pizza place or arcade. Cool to have something to play that doesn't involve shooting people's guts out. (Of course i do like DDR but that's another story). Your production is great too.
-Carla Ulbrich
"Odd Austin's music grabs you firmly by the cahonez and vigorously shakes them until all that remains are the foundation of what can only be described as 'nutty'"
-Dino-Mike
"Odd Austin reminds me a lot of myself when i was his age. The parodies, the writing, the dedication, and of course...the large hair."
-Insane Ian
