Tyranny of Distance is their second independent release. The members took advantage of LA’s rich musical surroundings and cultures and produced an EP that is reflective of the LA environment. The sound sometimes becomes intense and strident, as city life can be. At the same time, the sound finds some kind of balance between the business of the city and peace in one’s mind.
The theme of this EP is “separation and inevitability of time’s passing,” and the songs were composed when a member temporarily relocated outside the U.S. The EP starts with “Open Sea”, a song of being at a beach, staring at the ocean, facing the changes to come. The EP closes with “Meditation,” a different musical state of mind. The EP grew out of the metamorphosis that was irreversible and imposed.
Packaged items include lyrics, artists’ liner notes, and credits. Recorded, mixed, and printed in the U.S.A. Mastered in Japan. Released on November 29, 2008.
ODDISEA is a concept of taking rock music and experimenting with other genres of music such as jazz, contemporary, and world music. This LA-based musical group was formed in 2004 by Hirotaka Inuzuka, Chris Avalos, and Efren Garcia. The band went through various musical phases, in and out of pop music and experimental music. The first EP, BEING and FEELING, was self-released in 2006. In 2007 Marko Sanchez joined and the band went on to record their second EP, Tyranny of Distance. This recording is heavily influenced by jazz and Balinese gamelan music. The group will continue to explore the vast ocean of sounds and their possibilities.
