Oddity Cinema began as a small DVD shop in Vancouver, British Columbia. It opened in 2003, but after a year was sold and turned into Happy Bats Video. Next, an Oddity Cinema sprung up in Edmonton, Alberta in June of 2004. We did our best to corrupt the city and its inhabitants by bringing subversive cinema to the flatlands of Northern Alberta. We also created the Return to Odd International Film Festival which took place in October of 2004 and screened such classics as EVIL DEAD and CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST. Both in 35mm from a brand spanking newly remastered print. But yet again, a year found the shop in the hands of another person who renamed it The Lobby.
Oddity Cinema and its owner, Chris Bavota, skedaddled further East, taking residence in the rocky shores of... Fredericton, New Brunswick(!?), only to decide that perhaps creating a virtual shop that could exist anywhere (and everywhere) in the world would be the best idea for this nomadic man and his emporium o' DVDs.
In time, the online DVD shop became BuyHorrorMovies.com (now sold off) and Oddity Cinema became a news and review site dedicated to the same weird and obscure cinema it has always been dedicated to. The Oddity family is slowing growing, like a larval egg implanted in the bowels of your stomach, and who knows what strange and wondrous things might just happen next to Mr. Bavota and his strange and marvelous creations. Better stay tuned to find out!!!
