   Odyssey Bookshop's Blurbs
About me:
The Odyssey Bookshop was established in 1963 and celebrated its 40th anniversary in November, 2003. The Odyssey was founded by Romeo Grenier, a French-Canadian immigrant who arrived in Holyoke, Massachusetts, in 1923 at the age of thirteen. Despite a limited high school education, he became a passionate reader, buying a book a week. In 1935 he became a pharmacist, and in 1957 he bought Glesmann’s Pharmacy across the street from Mount Holyoke College, one of the Seven Sisters and the first women’s college in the United States.

The Odyssey continues to be a vital part of the Mount Holyoke College Community. In 2001, the Odyssey won a contract from the college to provide the course books for all courses and in 2003, the store also started carrying art supplies required in the college’s art studio courses. In addition, many of the Odyssey’s events are planned in conjunction with college faculty and departments.

Thanks for friending. The Odyssey is one of my favorite bookstores--there's always something new there and lots and lots of great authors to meet and greet. I remember back when my dad was doing his Master's at UMass and sometimes he'd bring us kids to the Odyssey when he'd be shopping for books for his classes and we'd have lunch on the picnic tables outside of the College Inn and read our books together. Does that date me or what?

The book "Humanity’s Edge"-soon to be a play from SAVT...

Recently the SaVirtualTheatre announced that it would be looking at a new way to help promote published authors on Myspace. The SaVirtualTheatre, which produces short plays for myspace, decided it would start to produce plays based on author’s books. This would allow the Myspace public to become introduced to the authors work by seeing their characters brought to life.

In September we asked Myspace authors to submit their work to us if they were interested in being a part of this undertaking and we received several submissions over the course of the next few weeks.

After a difficult decision process(we received a lot of very interesting story submissions) the SAVT has selected the short story “the Fittest to Survive” from Tamara Wilhite’s book “Humanity’s Edge” to be it’s inaugural “author submitted” play.

“The Fittest to Survive” is a short story that follows a lone woman fighting for survival as the world around her is ending. She finds two men who are locked in a conflict, and determined to battle to the bitter end. The woman’s choices determine both her own survival, and that of the human race.

This story can be found in Tamara Wilhite’s anthology “Humanity’s Edge.” Tamara Wilhite is also the author of "Natural Talent" and "Geronimo Reduex", available on amazon.com. Her short stories have been featured in “Universe Pathways”. Her next novel, “Sirat: Through the Fires of Hell”, will be released early 2008.

The play based on her story is scheduled to be produced in February 2008. So this gives all you myspace folk plenty of time to go out and get a copy of her book and read it so you can be ready to see her work brought to life on myspace.

The SaVirtualTheatre would like to thank all the authors who submitted their work. We admire and respect all of you for what you have accomplished. If this project is successful the SaVirtualTheatre
