We are Offbeat Antics. We are the Whalebird. Beautiful, Absurd, Gravity Defying. A haunting whalesong calling out in quiet desperation to other travellers of the pop music universe.
We are Honoured to have shared the bill with the likes of Horsell Common, Trial Kennedy, Snowman, Gyroscope, Birds of Tokyo, Tame Impala and Bob Evans.
This year we released our debut CD, 'EP No.1' to a sold out Amplifier Bar. Our tremendous thanks to those who came and waited so long. It was a life affirming experience we will never forget. It begins from here....
"Almost everything about this EP feels right. Warm and tape-driven, each song fills the headphones like aural blancmange. Production aside, the songwriting is just plain good. Unlike so many bands in this town that are constantly sprinting to keep up with the latest trends, Offbeat Antics just write really, really, good music. Opening track 'Here I Am' (admittedly they could work on giving their songs slightly more interesting titles) is a wall of fuzzy pop that fuses Muse and Cut Off Your Hands. There's so much detail in each song that the EP warrants a very close listen. Offbeat Antics should be spending more time sucking up to promoters, because with an EP this strong they should be topping local bills". - EP No.1 Review Drum Media 'Single of the Week'
“Offbeat Antics’ debut introduces itself with Here I Am – a bold and grand declaration of arrival… as the CD unfolds you can’t help but feel there is somewhat of a ‘best kept secret’ vibe to this band” - EP No.1 Review X-Press Magazine
“If like me you've seen Offbeat Antics playing live around Perth over the years you could be forgiven for wondering how the hell they plan on getting that live energy across on a CD. So I approached this review expecting to be a little let down. I wasn't.
In a way I hope the guys never create film clips to go along with these songs, for your first listen, close your eyes, kick back and let the music hit your brain, it creates its own visuals… a beautiful CD that will forever be a frequent played component of my collection. 4/5 Stars”
- EP No.1 Review Spaceshipnews.com.au
"With an energetic and talented frontman, and some killer harmonies behind him, the vocal attack was just part of Offbeat Antics' charm. Their songs were dynamic and catchy, and they didn't seem deterred by the lack of punters in front of them. Offbeat Antics gave tonight's set their all, and the end result was half an hour of enthusiastic and impressive rock. Expect these guys to do big things in the Perth rock scene." - Horsell Common support X-press Magazine Review.
