Mackenzie Alexander Astin was born on May 12, 1973. His proud parents, also famous actors, are John Astin and Patty-Anna-Duke. Having very talented parents, it’s no surprise that he and his older brother, Sean, found a passion for acting. Mack also has three half-brothers David, Allen and Tom. Mackenzie Astin began his acting career at the tender age of 9. Mack's mother Patty Duke didn't really want either of her sons to get into acting, but she was willing to help and support her sons in the anything they did. Mackenzie is mostly known for his roll as Andy Moffett in the last three seasons of the hit show “The Facts of Life” from 1985-1988. One of his famous co-stars was George Clooney.
While working with the "Facts Of Life," he was known has a heart-throb. Girls everywhere wanted his attention. From pin-ups to movies, Mack was a hottie! That also got him to try his talent on the big screen on the 1987 "The Garbage Pail Kids, the Movie" as Dodger. After the "The Facts of Life," he took a break until 1992 and was on the Lifetime Special, "The Lost Child Forever....The Jerry Sherwood Story." Since then he has been in the Walt Disney movie, "Iron Will,""Dream for an Insomniac," "Long Island Incident," "Stranger than Fiction" and "In Love and War" (co-stars were Sandra Bullock and Chris O'Donnell). This is only the beginning of a long line of movie to keep us entertained. Some of Mackenzie’s other movies include “Last Days of Disco,” “Laughter on the 23rd Floor” (co-star Nathan Lane) and “How to Deal” (co-star Mandy Moore). He also did a few made for TV movies for Hallmark “Love’s Enduring Promise,” and “In From the Night.” Mack hasn’t limited himself to just movies, he has also guest starred on three hit television shows: " Without a Trace " (Season 1), " LOST " (Season 1),
" House M.D " (Season 2), " Justice " and guest star with his brother Sean Astin on " MY Name is Earl." Mack has two movies coming out soon. " Final Season " (opens Oct.12, 2007) Starring Sean Astin and " The Four Children of Tander Welch " (opens Summer 2008) co-starring his mother Patty Duke.
When Mack isn’t auditioning, he enjoys hanging out and playing baseball with his friends. With his Mom in Idaho and his Dad on the east coast he loves spending time with his brother Sean and his family. Who knows, you may be able to catch him at a Los Angeles Dodgers game, he’s a true Dodger fan. One highlight to being a true fan is that he enjoys playing in the Hollywood Stars Celebrity Softball Game at Dodgers Stadium with his brother Sean.
