Birdie has arrived and she is bringing the sound of Underground Pop with her
The debut CD of teenage phenom Birdie (Underground Pop: Xposed) has been released and Birdie has begun performing all around the country.
Upcoming shows include The National Anthem for the Minnesota Timberwolves, The Taste of Minnesota, and several national shows in New York, Georgia, and Texas.
Birdie is also in the studio hard at work editing her current album and adding several songs in her native Laotian language. She will also have releases of some of her material in Thai.
Birdie has something special that you can't teach. When you hear her melodic voice, without a doubt - you are hooked. She, is one of those rare acts that just has that IT factor.
Birdie is a Laotian American vocalist that has been criticized at
times for her love of soul music, her use of rap, her sometimes aggressive approach to lyrics and her emotionally charged vocals style. But she is unmoved by these critics and moves forward with her career bringing us an art that is original and yet easily consumable for the masses. Her sound will redefine what is expected of artists debut albums. Her blending on genres is unconventional. These days most pop artists tend to take the safe route - not Birdie. She picks her material, has a hand in writing everything, and picks the songs that work, not just the songs that fit into a specific genre.
Her debut album entitled "Underground Pop: Xposed", will combine her passion for Hip Hop, techno, Pop, rock, and Soul. Over 40 songs were recorded for this project. Originally Scheduled to be a double Cd that idea was shelved and instead the material was broken up into 2 different projects.
The first project "Underground Pop Xposed" contains a select 15 tracks that fall towards a mainstream pop audience. With a hand in everything from writing the songs to beating the streets to promote her shows Birdie is dedicated to giving 100 percent of herself to her fans.
The second project was turned into the album (Life of a Popstar) This already completed 12 dark techno/rock opera is waiting for a release date sometime early 2008.
We are debuting a project called Sonic Transformations. Every month or so we will present a new audio-visual performance based on a different theme/story. We will be collaborating with artists and other creative musicians along the way so let us know if you have something you'd want to bring into this project.
The first in the series is called "AN OBJECT TO CRAVE". Live music and visuals based on a short story about life, love, loss, fantasy, obsession and death.
Another group of mine, The Magnetrons, which plays an exciting and innovative Livetronica set (i.e. STS9, Disco Biscuits, The Histronic) will also be playing. It will be a musical adventure, and we hope that you can come participate :)
