HISTORY
Cryptic Wintermoon was founded 1993.
After the release of the demotape “Voyage dans la lune”, the MCD “Cryptic Wintermoon”
and the split-EP “Franconian frost”, Cryptic Wintermoon signed a deal with
Ars Metalli in December 1998 and recorded the first album "The Age Of Cataclysm"
which contained eleven songs with 60 minutes playing time.
After the release, the album got best press.
Rock Hard (9 of 10 pts), Heavy oder was? (10 of 12 pts)..... and so on.
Cryptic Wintermoon finally quit the record deal with Ars Metalli and signed under
the banner of Massacre Records, where the second album named "A Coming Storm" was
released in May 2003 and again got very good reviews in the metal press:
RockHard (8,5 of 10), Heavy oder was? (10 of 12), Metalreviews.com (89 of 100)..
Cryptic Wintermoon also managed to play some of the biggest metal open air shows
in Germany, such as Wacken 2003 (together with Slayer, Twisted Sister, In Flames..),
Party-San 2003 (together with Unleashed, Carpathian Forest..) and Up from the Ground
(with Malevolent Creation...).
After spending more than two years on writing new songs and recording, Cryptic
Wintermoon finally released their second and also last album for Massacre Records
named “Of shadows...and the dark things you fear” in 2005.
Again the record got best press in magazines and netzines worldwide.
After this release Cryptic Wintermoon took a little time-out in order to take
care of personal issues.
After a three year long break, Cryptic Wintermoon finally recorded the actual CD
named “Fear”, which is a concept album about mainly World War I and shows all
the darkness and inhumanity of the industrialized war.
Once again the songs contain the typical “Cryptic Wintermoon vibe” and melody, just
in a much darker way. The variety of slow, midtempo and fast songs make this album
unique and different to other Death- and Blackmetal productions.
This time the guitars are tuned down to honour the 90..s swedish Death Metal bands,
who were a great influence to our music, and to give the songs a much darker feel.
Some german lyrics also found place beside of the mainly english vocals to bring
even more variety into this album.
On top of this, a raw and powerful sound, created in the “Frost studios” and
mastered by Andy Classen in the legendary “Stage one” studios, makes this album a
more than worthy follower to “Of shadows...and the dark things you fear”.
Cryptic Wintermoon decided not to work together with a record company this time.
In times of sinking record sales, we wanted to create a perfect album without any
pressure and limitation of budget from anyone.
Why should we do the work and others earn the money and sell a CD for overprice?
We try to give quality and a good price for CD..s and merchandise to our fans, because
we are fans too and we hate to be ripped off.
That..s why the entire production, recording, mixing and artwork was done by ourselves,
we love to do it and last but not least it keeps the prices moderate.
