To say that Brazilian metal reached international standards in professional terms is nothing new. It is true that many still think that playing a guitar at full blast and finding a vocalist who can shout for an hour is the same as creating a heavy metal band but the natural selection takes charge of eliminating these.

So the slot that remains ends up being taken over by those who are talented, professional, dedicated and love music. This is exactly what happens with quartet Holiness who is leaving the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, more precisely the city of Erechim, to conquer the world.

Holiness is not simply the union of five talented musicians. It is much more than that. Cristiano Reis (drums) and Hércules Moreira (bass) form an indisputable solid kitchen, while Fabrício Reis possess not only an immense variety of technical resources, but also a lot of feeling and enormous good taste when tuning his guitar. But the best remains for last.

Stéfanie Schirmbeck is not a little girl who thinks that reaching high notes transforms any girl into a rock singer. Simply because she is a rock singer. Stéfanie has a beautiful natural voice and, most important of all, she knows how to use it.

So heavy metal with some well-chosen hard rock details by Holiness gains personality thanks to her refined technique and enormous ability as an interpreter.

All of this caught the attention of none other than Aquiles Priester, who ended up producing the band..s debut album, Beneath The Surface, which counted with Adair Daufembach as sound technician.

The drums were recorded at Daufembach studios, in Criciúma (SC) and a mobile recording unit was sent to Erechim to accomplish the remaining recordings.

Once this stage was concluded, the album was mixed and mastered at Area 51 studio, in Celle (Germany) by American producer Tommy Newton and with the participation of keyboard player Fábio Laguna of Hangar.

Among the ten tracks that combine heaviness, melody, technique, feeling and very good taste, the group also has shown confidence to record two covers, Uninvited (Alanis Morissette) and Torn In My Side (Eurythmics), in covers that conferred the characteristics of Holiness to the songs.

Torn In My Side, by the way, was recorded exclusively for the Japanese version of the album since negotiations with labels from out of Brazil are at an advanced stage.

Not bad for a band that began two years ago in an unpretentious way with Stéfanie and Cristiano, who simply wanted to compose beautiful melodies that sustained themselves only with acoustic guitar and vocals. Stéfanie, Cristiano, Fabrício and Hércules did much more than that. They simply created a band that has everything to be the national revelation of 2010.

Falar que o metal brasileiro atingiu níveis internacionais em termos de profissionalismo não é novidade pra ninguém. É verdade que muitos ainda pensam que ligar uma guitarra no talo e encontrar um vocalista que consiga berrar durante uma hora inteira é o mesmo que formar uma banda de heavy metal, mas esses a seleção natural se encarrega de eliminar.

Assim, o espaço que sobra acaba sendo ocupado por quem tenha talento, profissionalismo, dedicação e amor pela música. Exatamente como acontece com o quarteto Holiness que está saindo do interior do Rio Grande do Sul, mais precisamente de Erechim, para certamente conquistar o mundo.

O Holiness não é a simples união de cinco músicos de talento. É muito mais do que isso. Cristiano Reis (bateria) e Hércules Moreira (baixo) formam uma cozinha de consistência a toda prova, enquanto Fabrício Reis mostra não só uma imensa variedade de recursos técnicos, além de feeling a toda prova e um enorme bom gosto na hora de timbrar as guitarras.

Mas o melhor fica para o fim. Stéfanie Schirmbeck não é uma menininha que pensa que buscar agudos nas profundezas transforma qualquer garota numa vocalista de rock. Simplesmente porque ela é uma vocalista de rock. Stéfanie tem uma bela voz natural e, mais importante de tudo, sabe usá-la.

Assim, o heavy com alguns detalhes bem sacados de hard rock feito pelo Holiness ganha personalidade através de sua técnica apurada e de sua enorme capacidade enquanto intérprete.

Tudo isso acabou chamando a atenção de ninguém menos que Aquiles Priester, que acabou produzindo o primeiro disco da banda, Beneath The Surface, que teve Adair Daufembach como técnico de som. As baterias foram gravadas nos estúdios Daufembach, em Criciúma (SC), que deslocou uma unidade móvel para Erechim para realizar o restante das gravações.

Concluída essa etapa, o álbum foi mixado e masterizado no estúdio Area 51, em Celle (Alemanha), pelo produtor americano Tommy Newton e conta com a participação do tecladista do Hangar, Fabio Laguna.

Dentre as dez faixas que mesclam peso, melodia, técnica, feeling e muito bom gosto, o grupo ainda mostrou-se seguro para gravar dois covers, Uninvited (Alanis Morissette) e Torn In My Side (Eurythmics), em releituras que revestiram aquelas músicas com as características do Holiness.

Torn In My Side, a propósito, foi gravada com exclusividade para a versão japonesa do disco, já que as negociações com selos de fora do Brasil encontram-se em estágio bastante avançado.

Nada mal para uma banda que começou há dois anos, de forma até despretensiosa por Stéfanie e Cristiano, que queriam simplesmente compor belas melodias, que se sustentassem somente com violão e voz. Stéfanie, Cristiano, Fabrício e Hércules fizeram muito mais do que isso. Eles simplesmente criaram a banda que tem tudo para ser a revelação nacional de 2010.
