‘Transnormal Skiperoo is a name I invented to describe a strange new feeling I've been experiencing after years of feeling lost and alone and cursed. Now, when everything around me begins to shine, when I find myself dancing around in my back yard for no particular reason other than it feels good to be alive, when I get this deep sense of gratitude that I don't need drugs or God or doomed romance to fuel myself through the gauntlet of a normal day, I call that feeling 'Transnormal Skiperoo.’ Jim White
Jim White traveled many a junkyard road to get to Transnormal Skiperoo. Raised in Pensacola, Florida, a town crushed between the church and heroin, Jim’s songs reach deep into the underbelly of the South. One time Pentacostal, fashion model, New York taxi driver, drifter, pro-surfer, photographer, film-maker, his music is the conduit for all the stories he collected along the way. His previous albums ‘Wrong-Eyed Jesus’ [1997], ‘No Such Place’ [2001] and ‘Drill a Hole in That Substrate…’ [2004] were acclaimed as masterpieces of ‘outer space alt.country’ and established Jim as a phenomenal maverick talent. Jim also starred in the BBC4 film ‘Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus’, an award-winning road-movie exploring Southern culture through its music and stories. Now living in an old farmhouse in the backwoods of Georgia, Jim White may have finally reached a place called home, but his other search, for what he calls ‘the gold tooth in God’s crooked smile’ continues in this new set of backyard tales. Transnormal Skiperoo was produced by Joe Pernice and Michael Deming, recorded with the band Ollabelle, and also features tracks with Tucker Martine and Laura Veirs, local Georgia legend Don Chambers & Goat, bluegrass duo Jeff & Vida and percussionist Mauro Refosco.

Hey friends, just wanted to give you a heads up that we've posted 2 videos to songs from the Mama Lucky album. You can find the videos at: http://www.myspace.com/mamaluckyusa I believe they're also posted on Youtube. Many thanks to Howard Better, who allowed us to use his films as a backdrop to the songs.
Your comment about MJ was not cold. It was an unselfish reality that most people don't realize. Your right, we should celebrate his death. He is free from the prison if HIS mind.
Ya know.....your only in Athens.....seeing you live shouldn't be that hard being that i am in Atlanta. Glad your back from Europe! That will make it much easier for me to find you playing your wonderful music somewhere.
I'm just back from Dublin, Ireland where I hung an exhibition of my weird art in the Douglas Hyde Gallery at Trinity College. I also did a musical performance in the gallery last Friday night and afterwards, as part of my "Shirt Off My Back" charity campaign, I held an auction of my old clothes. To my great surprise, although I brought only 3 articles of vintage clothing to sell, I raised $150 for Doctors Without Borders. Thanks to the incredible generosity of those Irish bidders. At this point in the economic decline noble endeavors like DWB are probably suffering, so contributions are urgently needed and much appreciated by me, the charity, and most importantly the individuals in dire need of medical care.
Since everybody and their brother has decided to chime in on the demise of the "King of Pop" and I'm not hearing what I feel are salient thoughts regarding his passing, I feel compelled to throw in my two cents worth.
Anyone with eyes in their head could see the misery that that poor creature was in as the train wreck of his life progressed, or rather degressed.
There has seldom been a human being more trapped in the prison of themselves than Michael Jackson was in his persona. He'd painted himself into a corner so horrific, so isolated and so impotent that it boggles the mind.
What was particularly troubling about his situation was that he was paralyzed by the Frankenstein monster he had so conspicuously designed himself to be.
And so while many are mourning his passing, I wonder if instead we shouldn't be celebrating his liberation. This may sound cold, but in fact it's a sympathetic statement. At the very least, he's free from the seething swarm of suffocating tentacles that reduced him to the sad pathetic shell of a human being that he was for many many years now.
Somewhere in this world as I write this there's a white glove and surgical mask that have no purpose any more, and that's triumphant news for the luminous spirit that was trapped inside the facade known as Michael Jackson.
My condolences to his family and loved ones. The death of a beloved family member is always one of life's most challenging ordeals. Although he's gone, I hope that they can take comfort in the fact that he's no longer imprisoned, no longer alone, no longer waiting for the next assault on the citadel of self.
If there is some kind of world beyond this world and what was essential in Michael Jackson has gone on there, can we simply close our eyes and mutually agree, as if praying, that that spirit is unbound and that Micahel Jackson, as we knew him, is finally free.
Thanks to Howard Better, talented filmmaker and my old cab driving buddy, we now have our first video for my side project Mama Lucky. To view the video just follow this link:
Just got 'Funny Little Cross To Bear', good stuff Jim but you should put out a live album proper cos you're great live. Just an album of your stories would be excellent, I love 'em Have a great day, Al
My old buddy Steve Horner has made a lovely video of the album version of Counting Numbers In The Air. Looks like it was shot at Coney ISland, one of my favorite haunts from when I lived in NYC all those years. Here's the link:
