Where do I begin? I have always been an artist by nature. However, I did not realize what my dream job was until the first time I heard Larry Levan play at the Garage. He created theater and took you on a journey that allowed you to escape for a few magical hours. I knew then what I wanted to do with my life...make music and play music. When I began to DJ it was because I wanted to connect to everyone. I wanted music to bring us together and allow us to share that light that exists in all of us.
So I worked hard and built a career for myself that I could have never imagined. I’ve played in the best clubs all over the world. Worked with the biggest and most talented artists in the world. I’ve truly been blessed. However, I have had a lot of help over the years.
I want to thank my parents (RIP) for accepting me for who I am…I love you and miss you. Next I want to thank Shep Pettibone for teaching me the ropes. I would also like to thank the owners of all the amazing clubs I worked at throughout the years.
I must thank the people who have held the parties together and made them great throughout the years Fernando, Darrel, Claudio. And Ms. Kevin I miss you and all off your fierceness.
Next I want to thank my real friends who have my best interest at heart: Mike, Ruben, dj Todd, Darren, Mikey G, Rudy, and Christina.
I mentioned earlier that my dream was to make music and play music. Obviously no DJ/Producer is capable of doing this without some help. So first I would like to thank all of the A&R people for sending me amazing music to remix especially Teresa LaBarbera and Hosh Gurelli. Finally, I want to share something with you that I wrote in the liner notes of my album Junior Vasquez Vol 2: “To all the great new producers that bring me stuff like Razor, Guido, DJ Escape, Johnny Vicious, Victor Calderone, Peter Rauhofer, Anthony Martinez, Christian Scott, Anthony Acid, Brutal Bill etc…” There has been many more talented individuals who have helped me but I thought that this quote was very special and worth mentioning in this letter.
I just wanted to let everyone know that I am grateful that you have helped fulfill my dream of creating magic and allowing us to come together on the dance floor and share that light that exists in all of us.
Next, the most important people, whom without them, this dream would have never become true....MY FANS. I love you and I thank you with all my heart (and my flashlight).
Finally, I want to thank someone who has come into my life over the past two and a half years… my boyfriend. He has taught me the importance of humility, he has encouraged me to get rid of the venomous people that have been trying to destroy my spirit and soul, and most of all for loving me Donald Mattern. I love you so much and you have taught me what true love is…And don’t get it twisted.
