You play records don't try to play us
The following is a message to the people who operate mainstream radio stations from behind the scenes. We as consumers are made to feel that the only importance we bare is in the form of listeners and lab rats. We fail to realize that we as the consumers invest billions of dollars each year towards the goals of those in the music industry and yet have no advantages afforded us.
When will we realize that these people don't care anything about us or the struggles we face as up and coming artists? There was a time when an artist with promise was given the opportunity to appeal to the public for their opinion but now if you don't cuss like a sailor or have a friend whose already sold millions of records willing to get on your album with you so that proceeds are guaranteed then there is no help available for you but self help.
Recently a young artist that has been in the business for over 15 years contacted a major radio station in the New York area and was not only disrespected but he was not even allowed the opportunity that every finished artist (Having your own completed project in stores) should be allowed which is to be played on the radio. This artist has already had another release and sold tens of thousands of copies on his own.
Upon receiving his phone call and hearing the pain in his heart I was enraged and took it upon myself to give that station a piece of my mind. I look at this young man as a son and we have worked together for several years. This artist tours all over the world on a regular basis and has been under the headers of mainstream artists everywhere. He was simply looking to be heard since he finally got his own project off the ground. This young man even performed at Madison Square Garden this week and floored the crowd. So this is my response to that radio station.
You know there are so many people out here who struggle day by day to make their dreams come true. Some have dedicated centuries to perfecting their crafts in the hope they would one day get the respect they deserve. Life has it's own way of dishing out surprises. We often think it's those unlike us that give us a problem but in recent months I'm finding more than ever those who have been fortunate enough to have their work pay off seem to think they have been automatically made Gods.
First of all there are many people here that come to this City/Country because of what they hear on the radios and chase the dreams of becoming recognized. I remember as a little girl listening to the radio and singing along into my hair brush. Well you will find that these institutions we honor so reverently to the point where their representatives achieve star studded fame and then charge us thousands of dollars for the benefit of having them at our functions are not always so nice. That in itself is somewhat understandable because they deal with so many people publicly on a daily basis but isn't that what they get the big bucks for?
Anyway they are not the problem at the moment it's the ones behind the scenes that truly have the "Bighead Syndrome". Let me just say for those of you who suffer with it, "you bleed red blood too" and at some point in your life you sought to be successful. Is it so easy to forget what it's like to work your tail off and need to hear a kind word from someone you hold in high esteem? Who do you think you are that you can talk to people any darn way you please and get a way with it?
I'll tell you like (Chubb Rock) said "If the people don't buy the records you'd be has beens plus naked." That goes for you who make your career based on records that people listen to as well. It broke my heart to hear that one of the radio stations I held in such high esteem has a woman by the name of Ms. Stacey Anderson as a director and that she was extremely rude and unprofessional to one of my artist. First of all Ms. Anderson this young man is a hard working dedicated artist who has been more places and on more stages than you will ever hope to see yes status and all.
After all the years of listening to this radio station who has been graced with the likes of " Real gems" Like Frankie Crocker and Ken Webb and Hal Jackson how dare you mar their contributions by being so heartless and rude with someone whose life was so heavily influenced by the airwaves you are now director over. How dare you talk to him in a fashion so cold that he needed to ask you has he wronged you?
You don't know me and I don't know you but I do know him and others like him. Are you that sold out to the business that you don't have time to be decent? Even if you don't play new artists you could at least have stopped by the school of your choice and taken a refresher course in Public Relations. You are not the only one I've had the same experience with the Apollo theater there is a young woman there as well that has the same problem and just maybe you two should get together and form your own organization "Head too big, Inc." Maybe you should take a lesson from the Diva Ms. Wendy she even disses classy. Lord knows how long that will last if she is in anyway influenced by the likes of you.
You owe not only that young man an apology but the all the others you probably offended. If you can't find it in yourself to be decent to the people who listen to the station then maybe they need to stop listening so you can remember what it's like to be on the come-up. I am no one of interest to you and have nothing to lose so I have no problem telling you what you so urgently need to hear. You were unnecessarily rude and if you are having a bad day maybe you should find some inanimate object to take it out on. People have feelings and you don't know what they are going through and something like that could push them over the edge, didn't you learn better or did you just forget?
In all fairness we did receive an apology or what was supposed to be an apology but it was more like you know I did not say that in that manner and sorry you misunderstood and thanks for bringing it to the attention of my supervisor and myself.(Phooey!)

God of second chances and new beginnings here I am again at your mercy asking for you to forgive me and to bless the hearts of those that mean so much to me, that they may know how much they are loved and appreciated even when they don't hear from me. Please keep them safe and bless them from the crown of their heads to the soul of their feet. Help them in all that they do, should it be righteous then make them prosperous and should it be wrong then help them to make it right. Grant them divine intervention according to your will. And please if you would while you are at it, those that need healing, uplifting, edifying, deliverance, peace, love , temperance, patience, understanding and or faith then from the depth of my soul I ask that you grant it them and their loved ones. I thank you with all that is within me and trust in your magnificent power and your unending grace and limitless mercy. Amen
