Our first time writing, singing, playing and recording in a studio...with a live band.
We are Larry Clark, Lorenzo Clark and Derrick Clark. We have been singing together since we were children. We have traveled around the United States; whether singing out-of-town or moving to various cities. We have ministered on live television, national church conventions, parks, gospel competitions and even for our lovely grandmother's appreciation service (video of that will be posted soon). As children we started out doing local venues in the Detroit area. It all started when Larry mentioned to his mother that he believed that the Lord wanted them to sing, since there were five of them. That's when "mom" Denise Clark Morrison at the time began to train the brothers to sing and dance. However, since she was not musically trained to play or arrange songs, the forward progress stalled. Originally, The Clark Brothers began just as The Clark Sisters did, 5 sisters and 5 brothers. The turning point came when Twinkie Clark came to live with the brothers in Carson, California. That is when and where the musical inspiration moved upon Larry. Unknowingly, Twinkie's work ethic and musical creativity was influencing Larry by merely being exposed to his aunt's everyday practice. Twinkie Clark had albums such as Earth Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder and The Gap Band that served as a musical awakening to Larry. Gradually, Larry began to see the role that he would play in The Clark Brothers by watching the behind the scenes devotion of Twinkie. Lorenzo and Derrick began to show interest in singing moving into there late teenage years. Lorenzo performed in his high school talent show, mimicking Bobby Brown. Derrick became immersed in the evolution of hip hop, being drawn to various rap artist like A Tribe Called Quest. Larry was captivated by Stevie Wonder to only later be mesmerized by Teddy Riley and Guy. After high school each brother went their seperate way. Larry went to live with Mattie Moss Clark, Lorenzo joined the Army and Derrick later came to live with Jacky Chisolm in Southfield, MI. It was when Larry lived with Dr. Clark that changed his life, inevitably changing the brothers. Mattie loved Larry dearly because he was the first of the next generation. However, the demand of holiness had not been expected of him before; coupled with being exposed to the music of The Winans, turned Larry around SPIRITUALLY. Since Larry was enthralled with the R & B group Guy, seeing Marvin Winans write and record with them inspired Larry to do GOSPEL (along with Hezekiah Walker's "Light Of The World"). By this time Larry was living in Greensboro, NC, Lorenzo in Texas (military) and Derrick in Detroit; it was time to reunite and use what Larry learned from Mattie's teaching and living example and Marvin Winans' example of ministering as a anointed men's group. In 1998, the brothers reunited all 5 brothers in Detroit. Richard Clark and Nicholas Clark came from Sacramento, CA to join the three. Nicholas was going to high school and Richard moved and pursued college. In 1999, the brothers began recording demos and every record company passed on them. Finally, with their own money they recorded a live studio album in January 2000. It was only distributed in the Detroit area. The brothers ministered in local venues in the area but never received the corporate backing they needed to reach the masses. Video of them singing live at the McDonalds Gospelfest will be posted as well as them singing live on Fox 2 news. The video of them singing (all 5) for their grandmother will be posted also. All the brothers have now gone their separate ways. This is the music that was recorded in 2000. All songs were written and produced by Larry Clark. (more photos of the photo shoot will be posted this week)
